Lab Manager & Research Area Specialist Senior for the Wicha and Burness labs at the University of Michigan. I am responsible for the daily management of both labs, and work on a variety of projects including; elucidating the role of DNA repair mechanisms in mediating breast cancer stem cell resistance to therapy, targeting and suppressing the stemless and tumorigenicity of TNBC stem cells through novel therapies, and understanding how novel therapies sensitize tumor cells to immune response.

Independently coordinate and prepare laboratory work for UofM’s Biology teaching laboratories. o Daily care and preparation of lab space to meet needs of teaching courses. o Collaborate with faculty and other staff to develop, implement, and improve experiments; utilizing PCR, cloning, gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, florescent microscopy, etc. o Develop and manage standard protocols, experimental procedures, and other documents.o Perform cell culture operations per SOPs to manage the health of active and stored of cell lines. o Create, maintain, and store various cell lines as needed to maintain inventory; bacterial and tissue.o Assisted design, refinement, and implementation of tissue culture based CRISPR in a teaching Laboratory.o Manage inventory/ordering of reagents and commodities for laboratories using Marketsite, Concur, LSA Purchasing Request Form, and with vendors directly. o Lead and train up to a seven-person team to assist with laboratory preparation and experiments.o Drive acquisition of new equipment to improve experiments and incorporate new techniques.o Regularly maintained/repair laboratory space and equipment; microscopes, pipettes, etc.o Reduced budgetary waste for Senior Molecular Biology course by 19% ($3,000 quarterly).

Assist Technicians and Veterinary Techs in their husbandry duties and care of the animals.o Provide food and water to animal following the SOP.o Maintain and clean animal cages, housing areas, and general use areas.o Perform daily health checks of the animals and facilities following the SOP while reporting abnormalities to the Veterinary staff members.o Assist with receiving, stocking and maintain all animal feed and personal protection equipment.
