I assisted research meteorologist Thomas Knutson from July to August 2014 with a study focusing on precipitation extremes that occurred in 2013 over the far northern Great Plains and Canadian Prairies. This involved performing several analyses on 60 land-based weather stations using data from the NCEI, National Centers for Environmental Information. Python and Excel were used to help parse through the data and create visuals for presentation. I simultaneously became more familiar with both Unix/Linux systems and working in a research environment. After a break to attend senior courses at Rutgers, I returned March 2015 to June 2015 to perform additional work on a study related to Arctic amplification.
