In my role as a Success Advisor in Business Academic Advising & Career Services (BAACS) within the College of Business, I provide academic advising and career coaching services to our undergraduate students.Along with the infusion of appreciative advising into my work, I am able to help students stay on track for graduation and develop a personalized plan, explore their passion areas and potential courses of study/careers, troubleshoot problems, and provide career readiness feedback. I am also an adjunct instructor for both UC 1900- College of Business Learning Community and UC 1500- Business Transfer Student Seminar. In these courses, I work with 1st year students and internal/external transfer students to discuss relevant topics, help them adjust to OHIO/the College of Business, teach key skills, and build connections.

The Housing Ambassador Program encompasses a group of undergraduate students who share their experiences of living on campus to incoming and prospective students and their families. They are charged with being leaders in their respective halls and on campus by modeling appropriate behavior and educating their peers on housing processes and policies. While in this role, I directly supervised up to 35 undergraduate students in their roles as Housing Ambassadors and prepared them to conduct residence hall tours for prospective student recruiting events, demonstrate operational excellence and unforgettable customer service, manage facilities, provide important support services for students, and be role models for their on-campus peers. In addition, I also ensured the use of strategic coaching and developmental conversations with staff to encourage compassion, collaboration, and self-assessment.Outside the scope of working directly with my supervisees, I also lead facilitations for MyCollegeRoomie, a roommate matching software, traveled to multiple recruitment events across the US and shared housing information, streamlined multiple resources and processes for the program, and contributed to the revision of verbiage in departmental systems that created a more equitable experience for students.

The Convocation Center

As a Graduate Resident Director (GRD), I was directly responsible for the facilitation of an engaging residence hall community for 100 predominantly second-year students. The residents of this hall also included approximately 25 students from the Army ROTC living learning community. Each week, I ensured a variety of fun and educational programming efforts were conducted through 4-8 Resident Advisors with a budget of $2600 and formulated collaborative relationships with relevant campus partners. In addition, I provided mentorship and supervision to my Resident Advisors and also served in the on-call, crisis-response rotation for campus while responsible for up to 14 residence halls.Lastly in this role, I also facilitated developmental conversations with students for code of conduct violations, supported Ohio University's commitment to diversity and inclusion by cultivating an equitable and inclusive workspace, and advised a residence hall programming council of 4 students also with its own smaller budget.

Housing Business Operations

In this role, I moderated activity and chat with students using a roommate matching and networking software called MyCollegeRoomie. In this platform, I focused on intentional outreach to incoming first year students through providing helpful hints, recommendations for involvement based on expressed interest, and important reminders for upcoming deadlines. The goal of having first year students use this platform was to establish an enhanced sense of self and connection to Ohio University by providing a convenient space to do so. In this, students interacted with each other through status updates, direct messaging, and filtering for preferred roommates based on certain criteria.Additionally, I also assisted in the development and implementation of a new express check-out policy and procedure for the Department of Housing & Residence Life. In doing so, I worked to broaden my perspective on the operational and occupational needs of a residential college campus.Lastly, I also engaged in a myriad of research and analytics projects that revealed helpful trends on incoming first-year students including desire for roommates, academic major, involvement, and more. Specifically, this data allowed the department to allocate additional resources in support of first-year students finding and maintaining successful roommates and also continue to improve MyCollegeRoomie based on real feedback from real users.

Jefferson Hall And Crawford/Mackinnon Complex

In this role, I was responsible for monitoring and recording the progress of 11-14 Resident Advisors on their residential engagement requirements based on departmental and university standards. I also communicated discrepancies to my supervisor to hold staff members accountable. Furthermore, I also served as a role model for those Resident Advisors and in turn coached on the adoption and understanding of university and departmental policies, how these procedures and strategies can best fit into enhancing resident experience on campus, and how best to build a nurturing and engaging community for all 200+ residents.Additionally, I also co-advised, with my supervisor, a group of 5-15 residents in residence hall government. Working with this talented and motivated group of students was extremely rewarding as I worked to enable them in regular advocacy, community service, programming, and fundraising work for their community.Lastly, I also played a pivotal part in occupancy management for my residence halls and coordinated the room change process. Through this, I mediated conflict resolution conversations between roommates and offered solutions, and also maintained occupancy data to effectively move residents with the highest standards of customer service.

In my 2nd year of graduate school, I pursued a practicum as an instructor for our first year student transition course, or a learning community, through University College and the Office of First Year and Student Transitions. In this role, I met with 18 students once per week to engage in discussions around pertinent first year student-related topics including study tips, interpersonal violence, establishing connection to campus, wellness strategies, research resources, and more with the assistance of a learning community leader.

In this role, I aided in career coaching efforts in the College of Business through conducting one-on-one student appointments focusing around resume/cover letter writing tips, job/internship searching strategies, networking, and practice interviews. In addition, I presented in the 3rd Year Career Audit workshop series to assist students in securing internships and preparing for the job search. Lastly, I was also a Teaching Assistant for the Intro to the College of Business class, focusing on the career management process as a whole, and assessed student assignments.

Assisted with the transition of incoming first-year students to Ohio University at required orientation programs. Information was shared in multiple ways and began with fostering relationships and communicating appropriate academic college information/expectations. In addition, I also then provided assistance with scheduling for their first semesters and provided guidance on getting acclimated to student life on campus.

In this role, I consistently enhanced guest experiences by instilling core Chick-fil-A values of fresh food, fast service, and impeccable customer service through the drive-thru. Over time, I was proficient in all front of house responsibilities both in and out of the drive-thru, and also taught those standards to brand new employees at a location in Houston, Texas outside my own store.Specifically, I cultivated top team members by providing training on closing front of the house, front-counter register, dining room, bagging food, stocking, drive-thru register/window, drive-thru headset, and exceptional kindness and customer service.

In this role, I was a peer advisor to 25 first-year students at Ohio University. During that time, I held many developmental conversations with my residents, built strong relationships with my residents and others of the building, facilitated multiple engaging programs for residents to form connections/learn/have fun, managed several crises ranging from personal mental health concerns to intoxication and hospitalization, and assisted with hall council (a student-run programming board).

As a campus market employee, I ensured positive customer experiences and top quality food and beverages for all customers shopping at the market by exercising exceptional customer service and working efficiently. In addition, I also controlled product stocking to provide a complete and properly displayed selection of goods for customers. Lastly, I also made it a point to engage with all customers beyond the point of sale for a more positive shopping experience.

Camp Frontier At Pioneer Scout Reservation

In this role, I worked with and supported the work of a staff of 100+ to provide an exceptional scouting program that included merit badge class instruction, games, fun activities, etc. to thousands of kids aged 10-17 each summer. In the day to day, I helped to oversee staff activities and conduct to ensure actions were consistent with the scout oath and law, planned morale-boosting events and socials for staff, subbed-in to cover merit badge classes when needed, and supported staff members through informal counseling to help maintain a positive working environment.

Camp Frontier At Pioneer Scout Reservation

As an area director, my program area of responsibility was the crafting area which included merit badges such as woodcarving, leatherwork, or welding, down to art, metalworking, and basket weaving. Throughout the summers in this role, I regularly taught the leatherworking and sculpture merit badges to scouts and also trained my six other staff members in best practices for teaching and to provide the best customer service and experience possible. After three years in the program area as standard program staff, I was promoted.
