“There are always three speeches for every one you actually gave. The one you practiced, the one you gave, and the one you wish you gave.” —Dale CarnegieCommunication isn’t easy. But delivering the right message at the right moment has the potential to change hearts and minds—and maybe even change the world. Effective communication is a superpower and we all have the ability to be superheroes. We just have to be willing to spend some time learning how to fly.I’ve been helping people reach their communication goals for over a decade. I’m a professor at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and an expert on leadership communication, executive presence, and persuasive speaking. I also lead Summit Presentations, LLC, a training company that delivers high-impact professional development programs. We use research-based training strategies and data-driven assessments to help people become better speakers and better writers. Through interactive exercises and simulations, our clients learn how to frame messages, use data, and tell stories to influence others and create lasting impact.I’ve been fortunate to share my ideas with many different audiences. I’ve written two books, "Public Speaking: The Path to Success" and "Lessons from the Podium: Public Speaking as a Leadership Art,” and several articles for national and international publications. I’ve also been quoted in media outlets around the world, such as the Financial Times, Forbes, Slate, Vanity Fair, New York Magazine, NBC News, and BBC Radio. The best part of my job, though, is working with amazing people. I’ve helped distinguished professors and scientists deliver TEDMED and TEDx Talks; helped CEOs and senior business executives communicate their vision in keynote speeches and at town halls; helped sales teams and entrepreneurs develop pitches for innovative products and companies; and helped thought leaders and government officials deliver inspirational speeches to large audiences.Send me a message if I can help you or your team reach new heights.
