Colby Cedar Smith is an award-winning poet, novelist, and educator. She has spent the last fifteen years teaching writing and storytelling workshops in schools, art museums, community centers, university classrooms, non-profits, and corporations. Colby's debut novel, CALL ME ATHENA: GIRL FROM DETROIT (Andrews McMeel, 2021) is a Junior Library Guild Gold Selection Standard Selection; an American Booksellers Association Indie Next Pick; a Cybils Poetry Award Finalist, a Goodreads Choice Best Poetry Nominee, and a 2022 Michigan Notable Book, a Silver Nautilus Award Winner for Lyric Prose, a Silver Independent Publisher's Book Award (IPPY)for YA fiction, a Gold Independent Publisher's Book Award (IPPY) for Audiobook Fiction, and a Kid's Book Choice Finalist for "Best Stellar Storytelling."She has been shortlisted for over twenty poetry prizes including the Colorado Prize for Poetry, the Iowa Review Poetry Prize, and the 92Y/Discovery Prize in Poetry.
