Trying patent cases is simply my favorite thing to do, outside of spending time with family. I like cooking, so much that I envision opening a restaurant one day (four children keep my stove busy enough for now). I like sailing, so much that I’m pursuing a USCG Sailboat Captain’s License. I like competing in chess tournaments. I like alpine skiing, slalom water skiing, and surfing. But I love trying patent cases. It’s probably not in my interest to say so, but I would gladly do this work for free. High-stakes litigation requires the same sort of mental gymnastics as a chess match, but on a vastly grander scale. Every motion, deposition, expert report, and trial witness outline calls upon the attorney to strategically maximize the threat of her positions, while anticipating and neutralizing opposing threats. In patent cases, this grand strategy contest plays out at the leading edge of human innovation. I am passionate about science, and spent years working in a laboratory, before working as a high school science teacher. When I began litigating patents in 2015, I immediately knew that my grandfather was right: “Love what you do, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”My passion for this work ensures extraordinary foresight and efficiency. I wake up thinking about your case, and I go to sleep thinking about your case, but none of those “thinking” hours will ever show up on a bill. For every billed hour―spent typing a brief or questioning a witness in deposition―my clients receive the benefit of an unbilled hour (or more) in “thinking” and "planning" time. That is how my team of four trial attorneys thoroughly defeated a team of more than twenty trial attorneys in 2021―the jury returning a verdict, after two hours of deliberation, that all of my client’s patents were valid and willfully infringed.I have tried patent cases in numerous district courts, from San Francisco to New York City. I have personally handled every facet of a patent case, from the drafting of pleadings to the drafting of post-trial motions and appellate briefs filed in the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. I have argued motions and pretrial conferences, and taken and defended depositions of every type, from sales manager witnesses to expert witnesses. I have conducted discovery pursuant to the Hague convention in numerous countries, from Israel, to Germany, to Lithuania.
