Developed relationships with Southside and Northside African American and New American ministries through the formulation of food pantries in those neighborhoods.Played a leading role in developing and implementing the agency's onboarding process by developing curriculum for training, writing onboarding plans/schedules, and incorporating supervisor/participant feedback into the process.Utilizing Microsoft Publisher, developed and released internal agency newsletter to keep current staff aware of agency operations and updates, new sources of funding, and staff changes.
Fundraising Development Intern
As a fundraising development intern at the Near East Foundation, I answered to the Director of Partnerships and Philanthropy. My major tasks included researching potential new partnerships for NEF as it works to develop projects in Middle Eastern communities. NEF is currently expanding its operations to Syria and Iraq, and part of my role was to converge this expansion with external philanthropic support for NEF. Please see our most recent Impact Report for details about our projects and, as always, I welcome your comments and questions!
Research Aide
At PIAR, I gained first hand knowledge in surveying research methods and technique. It was also a learning experience in terms of how state mandated programs evaluate themselves, and what role the respondents play in this process. Above all, my time at PIAR provided training in the use of surveying as a research tool. After year one, I moved to the role of supervisor and was in charge of about 10 employees annually.
Ambassador Intern
As an Ambassador Intern, I was tasked with researching and publishing new material on a regular basis. Topics ranged from Arab culture to international politics impacting the Middle East. I also published my pieces on social media platforms Facebook and Twitter, and on arabamerica.com. I attended panels in the D.C. area at the Brookings Institution and Arab Gulf States Institute. At Arab America, I became proficient in the use of social media for advertising, WordPress, SEO, and journalistic style/research.
