Using opportunity costs, I determined that the most beneficial thing I could do for myself during my first semester of college would be to join a fraternity that had morals and values the correlated and aligned with my personal beliefs. Myself and 48 others decided to rush Pi Kappa Alpha to earn our spot. Soon after we ran for new member positions, and I was elected unanimously to be their new member class president. For almost 2 months, I handled situations, coordinated internal events, held meetings, and took initiative to ensure the utmost development for all 48 members in my class. When Spring came around, not only a few weeks into the semester, I was elected to be the new social chair for the entire fraternity. I took on a huge responsibility as freshman and I was serving 140 other men, in which most are much older than I. To this day, I have dedicated countless hours carefully scheduling events, diligently performing sorority speeches, and frequently analyzing the efficiency and outcome of any event, philanthropy, or walk around to ensure continual growth for the chapter as whole; however, my responsibilities extend much further than those three aspects. All in all, this has been one of the most positive experiences I have had in my collegiate life. The assets along with skills I have developed and sharpened on a day-to-day basis prove to me that grasping the opportunity I saw ahead of me at only 18 years old was a step in the path to a successful and self fulfilling life.
