About Cole Augustine, Ctp, Certpay, Sa, Ssm, Popm, Cspo, Mba

As someone who doesn't wear hats, I've worn a lot of the metaphorical kind. I am an international banking and payment professional, specializing in developing creative solutions to assist banks, fintech, and corporates improve how they do business at home and abroad. These days, I spend my time thinking, writing, and presenting on big picture topics related to finance. When possible, I seek to pull in a wide swath of resources, bringing consilience rather than silos. And most importantly, I'm envisioning what the future of financial services will look like as we move beyond terrestrial commerce and need to develop the discipline of trade in space. My motivation comes from a passion for continually improving the way that the industry functions and a genuine interest in the work I do. I bring a unique mix of cross-functional sales, relationship management, product management, and project management experience, which allows me to develop solutions from a place of understanding. I know when to reinvent the wheel and when to refine the wheel, metaphorically speaking. I constantly strive to deepen my own understanding of how banks and companies move money, manage risk, and leverage new or existing technologies to do so. My goal is to leverage this depth of understanding for the industry to distill complex ideas into simple, easy to apply practices that drive real results. To avoid falling into the trap of overvaluing my own experience, I seek to maintain a radical curiosity and a hunger for new ideas from a wide range of disciplines. As they say, most innovation isn't net new, but a new application of a solved problem. Above all, I bring an infectious energy and positive attitude to the workplace and love to be part of a fun, collaborative, and innovative environment full of people that genuinely love what they do. Specialties: Fintech, Sci-Finance, Space Trade, Payables, Receivables, Domestic and International Payments, International Banking, Trade Finance, Supply Chain Finance, Foreign Exchange, Cash Management, Treasury Management, Transaction Banking, Product Management, Product Development, Liquidity Management, Relationship Management, Business Development, Correspondent Banking, Strategy, Innovation, Risk Management, Compliance, Purchasing Cards, Agile**********************************Contact:coleaugustine@galactictrade.co971-275-2938**********************************

Throughout my career, I've worked hard to stay on the cutting edge of what's happening in the financial services industry and to look beyond the constraints of "the way things are" and position myself as a recognized thought leader. • Currencycloud
    Financial Institutions Sales Consultant
    Currencycloud Jan 2020 - May 2020
    London, England, Gb
** COVID Layoff** It's hard for financial institutions to build out a cross-border payment and foreign exchange infrastructure. I spent the better part of the past decade working as a product manager for several phenomenal regional banks. Each offered their own unique value and insight into the business, but inevitably, each dealt with the same issues related to software, correspondent banking, and how to best deliver solutions to customers. CurrencyCloud sought to create an antidote to the traditional challenges of correspondent banking, creating a robust payment and FX infrastructure.
  • Moovel Group
    Payments Product Manager
    Moovel Group Mar 2019 - Sep 2019
    Berlin, Deutschland (Deu), De
** Company wind down ** As a Payments Product Manager at moovel, I worked to use payments as a catalyst for growth and facilitate our company's larger vision of creating a world without traffic jams. Our Mobility-as-a-Service mission envisions a future where people can all move seamlessly throughout our cities and removing the friction by simplifying payments and building a deep understanding of our clients, transportation users, and underserved communities.
  • Umpqua Bank
Vice President - International Banking Product Manager
    Umpqua Bank Nov 2017 - Mar 2019
    Portland, Oregon, Us
As the first International Banking Product manager at Umpqua, I worked with a talented, cross functional team to develop international banking solutions that could compete with both our peer banks and large global banks. This role allowed me to expand my focus beyond traditional trade and foreign exchange and look at unique capabilities in cross-border payments, risk management, and supply chain finance.
  • Frost Bank
Vice President - Global Trade Services Product Manager
    Frost Bank Mar 2015 - Oct 2017
    San Antonio, Texas, Us
As the first Product Manager for Global Trade Services at Frost Bank, I was brought to evaluate, evangelize, and implement the strategic and tactical roadmap for all cross-border services bank wide. This role has allowed me to build upon my already strong product management skill set, but brings a unique perspective, as my team reports into Risk Management, rather than Treasury or International Banking. This has allowed me to broaden my focus and seek ways to seamlessly marry concepts from treasury, trade, foreign exchange, and even insurance to create comprehensive solutions to help our customers do business abroad. Where prior product roles have been more focused on payments and treasury management, this position has allowed me to deepen my experience in structuring risk mitigation in order to help customers reduce risk, optimize costs, and learn how to leverage a strong understanding of risk to grow sales and strengthen not only their company, but their entire financial supply chain. As highlighted by the number of speaking engagements I've tackled on the topic of risk, typically viewed from the perspective of the customer's trading partners, rather than their own, this role has allowed me to tie together a wide range of concepts into a holistic approach to banking that transcends organizational silos. In addition to an increased focus on risk management, I have identified a myriad of opportunities for growth, challenged and tested the assumptions of the project, and then implemented well researched and flexible solutions. A few key highlights include; FDIC Insured Foreign Currency Demand Accounts, Trade Services Platform, multi-provider auto-convert, sophisticated export finance tools, and much more.
  • Capital One
Senior Manager - Sr. International Product Manager
    Capital One Sep 2011 - Feb 2015

I’ve led or participated in several significant technology replacement projects including a core global payment system, treasury management front-end, trade finance system, and foreign exchange platform and am well versed in Agile methodologies. In addition to building and improving infrastructure, I managed a large P&L and sought to grow revenue and reduce costs. I have leveraged my extensive sales and relationship management experience to train the sales force on how to use and sell my product set to our clients, which has led to significant revenue growth and an improved client experience. This skill set has also allowed me to negotiate more favorable pricing from vendors and suppliers, while maintaining strong, high trust relationships.I have also represented Capital One as a subject matter expert in the field of international banking, presenting at events such as BAFT-IFSA and have been interviewed for or “ghost written” articles that have been published for both internal and national publications in the field of banking and treasury management.

    Union Bank Jul 2009 - Sep 2011
    San Francisco, Ca, Us
I worked as a senior relationship manager focused on treasury management, liquidity, and global payments. In addition to working to deepen relationships with an existing set of clients, a significant portion of my time was spent focused on business development, specifically focused on clients with a need for a banker that understood both their domestic and international banking needs. The role allowed me to leverage the expertise and local presence of a strong regional bank, combined with the global size and scale of the parent company, Bank of Tokyo. In 2010, I joined the “Million Dollar Club” and was part of a small group of top performers that had generated more than $1MM in new revenue for the bank. Additionally, I was recognized for referring one of the largest commercial loan opportunities to ever be identified by the Treasury Management organization. Beyond my core responsibilities, I participated in a number of special assignments. I acted as a member of the Global Banking “SWAT” team and worked as the Treasury Management liaison for the Global Business Coordination unit, a team dedicated to providing our clients access to the world by leveraging the capabilities of Bank of Tokyo, or assisting the parent company’s clients in doing business in the US. I also represented Union Bank at industry events such as the Oregon AFP and FCIB as both a participant and a presenter. During this time I continued to move beyond core treasury management services, deepening my understanding of Trade Finance, Foreign Exchange, International Payments, and Global Liquidity. Chicago, Illinois, Us

I worked as a Cash Management and Commercial Card Sales Consultant covering Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The role allowed me to manage a diverse set of clients including Financial Institutions, Corporate and Middle Market companies, Small Businesses, and Auto Dealers. In addition to our direct Financial Institution clients, Bank of the West was the West Coast banking partner for the Fiserv Clearing Network, groundbreaking shared cash letter program aimed to reduce costs and improve the efficiency of check clearing for community banks. This unique role extended beyond core treasury management services, allowing me to focus on payments, reporting, and liquidity for a broad base of clients. I supported a wide network of branches, small business bankers, and relationship managers, as well as had a significant focus on direct business development. Prior to accepting the Business Development role, I worked as Treasury Management Project Coordinator, focused on implementing highly complex treasury solutions for Corporate, Government, and Financial Institution clients. This role allowed me to hone both my Treasury Management and Project Management skills.
