First discovered on Poo-bah Records’ debut 2004 release, Day & Night Ep with Ras G, he has since offered a live instrumental on Plug Research's Sound Of LA Vol. 2, a solo MONK MUSIC EP also on Poo-Bah Records, and has future releases scheduled. Black Monk along with Ras G and Ron Stivers are the founders of the Poo-Bah Label. His background includes playing keys in a gigging jazz ensemble, studying with great avant horn player Bobby Bradford, and doing session work with artists like Ras G, Ta’Raach, Take, Kutmah, Sacred, and Snoop Dogg. In the mid-90’s Blackmonk worked as an assistant engineer at Music Grinder Recording Studios. Death Row Records frequented the place along with other major Rock, Pop, and R&B labels and artists at the time.

Within this after school program I would spend three weeks at an elementary school and teach stu- dents the basics in recording music, the different styles of music that exist around the world, singing techniques, and ultimately recording a CD of the songs learned in the program. On the last day of the three week program, we would present a show and invite parents out to see their children singing and talking about recording music. This job allowed me to realize my potential with teaching, working with children and how to make important decisions on the fly.
