• Directed court-monitoring project observing the domestic International Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Supervised a team of three Bangladeshi lawyers and three interns. Managed project according to tight timeline in complex political environment while navigating confidentiality and security concerns.• Coordinated and managed analysis of more than twenty trials in terms of procedural standards, application of legal precedent, impact of political pressure on the judiciary, and dynamics of domestic prosecution of international crimes.

• Conducted defensive and affirmative civil litigation concerning eviction, fair-housing, habitability issues, and other tenant rights violations. Responsible for client-intake, brief-service, negotiations and motion-practice for tenants facing eviction.

• Litigated before the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR). Drafted briefs, FOIA requests, and complex legal memos.• Provided legal counsel on successful case of al-Nashiri v. Poland, in which ECtHR found Poland to be complicit in CIA rendition, detention and torture. Drafted admissibility brief for El Sharkawi v. Egypt, alleging arbitrary detention and torture under Egyptian Emergency Law.• Researched issues in international jurisprudence including the right to remedy, undue delay, fair trial standards, definitions of torture, and international protections against arbitrary and administrative detention. Conducted research for reports on administrative detention policies, international complicity in rendition, and the use of counter-terrorism laws to suppress political dissent.

Managed multiple projects involving legal research and writing on transitional justice mechanisms. Developed legal arguments for codification of the “Crime of Aggression” at the International Criminal Court (ICC). Evaluated efficacy of accountability in Nepali peace process. Produced memo on tensions between prosecution and amnesties used by the executive director at the 2010 ICC Review Conference.

Consulted on and provided assessment of local child protection project in Democratic Republic of Congo using cellular technology to improve monitoring and reporting of rights violations. Provided legal training to 15 village committees on the legal framework of human rights, as well as in monitoring and reporting techniques. Interviewed victims, service providers, and police. Designed and implemented second stage of project, establishing systems linking reporting to direct medical, legal and psychosocial services.
