About Cole Lavelle
Hello! My name is Cole Lavelle, and I am currently a senior at Vanderbilt University pursuing a major in mechanical engineering complimented by an engineering management minor. As my final year comes to an end, I am eager to step into the next phase of my life and am actively in search of jobs in the engineering industry. Due to my expansive skillset, diverse experience, and adaptable and optimistic personality, I can see myself taking on all sorts of roles. That being said, my fascinating experiences in both a robotics research lab and the mechanical studio of an architecture firm lend those two engineering disciplines as the especially intriguing to me.As mentioned above, two of my most informative experiences include my time in Dong Lab and Little Diversified Architectural Consulting. I’ve been a loyal member of Dong Lab since the spring of my sophomore year. My time in the lab has exposed me to valuable experience in the field of miniature robotics and many incredible and ambitious projects, of which I now have one of my own. Most importantly, Dong Lab has ingrained in me the willingness and readiness to go the extra mile when it comes to time, effort, and quality of a project.Additionally, my time at Little introduced me to the world of HVAC and what it’s like to work in the industry versus a research lab. I began my time with Little in the summer of 2024, and continue into the school year as a part-time employee. During this time, I have learned an incredible amount of knowledge about HVAC, plumbing, and more. Additionally, I grasped a perfect understanding of what type of workplace I hope to immerse myself in the future. The camaraderie, teamwork, and fun energy that come with working at Little are all things that I hope to surround myself with for the rest of my career. Obviously the last 300 words were vague overviews of me and my experiences, but I go into far more depth below. Additionally, anyone and everyone feel free to contact me about anything and everything!

Mechanical Engineering Intern
Research Assistant
CurrentAs a member of the Dong Miniature Robotics Lab, I have been leading a project titled, "Wirelessly Heated Bone Implant for Minimally Invasive Healing of Implant-Cement Interface." As stated in the title, this project focuses on solving for an alternative minimally invasive method to repairing the implant-bone cement interface via induction heating. During my time in the lab, I have gotten to design and perform my own experiments, develop my skills in software including MATLAB, SolidWorks, and LabVIEW, and truly understand the meticulous process that is research.
Raft Guide
Fablab Assistant
As an assistant for a FabLab over the summer, I facilitated the production of hundreds of reliable and sturdy germ shields for an elementary school during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Through this opportunity, I gained experience in mass producing and consistently improving a product, while simultaneously challenging my innovative and problem-solving abilities.
Engineering Summer Camp Counselor
As an engineering summer camp counselor, I got to blend the typical duties and skills that come with being your typical camp counselor with those of efficiently and appropriately operating the equipment throughout a FabLab. These responsibilities and skills included leadership, safety, problem solving, woodworking, CAD, 3D printing, laser cutting, soldering and more. Overall, this experience served as an opportunity for me to further my skills within the FabLab. It also allowed me to share these acquired skills of mine with other younger engineers who hoped to be standing in my shoes one day.
