As the quality engineer at Custom Aluminum Products I am responsible for a wide range of responsibilities in the Quality Control department in Genoa. One of my common duties involves interfacing with other departments on the behalf of Quality. This includes sharing quality information and issues that have sprung up at supervisor meetings, contacting departments in order to organize the inspection of products, informing other supervisors about changes to the quality systems in place, and helping supervisors resolve quality issues, whether that be an argument between departments or root cause analysis issues. I also became certified in PC-DMIS for CMM 101 while in this position. As such it was part of my duties to create and run checks using the Coordinate Measuring Machine for Custom Aluminum. I primarily use PC-DMIS 2020 R2, but was trained on the similar, but updated PC-DMIS 2021. I also help the QC department by creating standard operating procedures, participating in product sorts, and helping to perform quality audits. I help to audit 5S procedures within both the South Elgin and Genoa locations of Custom Aluminum Products.

As a quality control inspector at Custom Aluminum Products I was responsible for performing inspections on products throughout the facilities in South Elgin. To accomplish this I made use of calipers, length gages, scales, height gages, Rockwell hardness testers, Webster temper gages, tape measures, feeler gages, and the Romidot shadow system. I read prints and took measurements in order to determine whether or not products were within acceptable tolerances. I kept track of work I had performed and submitted that information to my supervisor, and checked the temper on heat-treated material. This was a job where I was required to work both on my own and with a team of other inspectors to accomplish tasks and keep our supervisors informed on changes on the ground within the South Elgin facility.

I worked at Suncast as an engineer as part of their rotational program. During this time I worked in the industrial engineering, quality assurance, and design departments of Suncast. I also worked with other interns at the facility as part of a group project for the company. In the industrial engineering department I was tasked with locating missing inventory information, determining which products needed to have their bill of materials updated to include a plastic hood, run an experimental time study based on information about a competitor's product, analyze and asses the standard work and layout for production lines at the facility. In the quality assurance department I was tasked with helping run nozzle tests, running pressure burst tests on hoses, and checking products to see if they met specifications using calipers and sets of gauges.In the design department I was tasked with aiding in the completion of a fastener database.Finally, I worked with a group of other interns to complete a project. During this project we worked as a team to investigate and find the root cause behind several units of product that had collapsed in the warehouse before they could be shipped. We located the problem and wrote a report to our supervisors explaining the issue.
