Sheerness Generating Station

Coordinated with maintenance and operations personnel to identify and solve process and equipment issues. Lead projects from scope establishment to commissioning and post installation support. Designed and installed upgrades to existing equipment to increase reliability and efficiency.• Oversaw two major turbine overhauls of 400MW Hitachi steam turbines. Performed remaining life assessment while repairing and renewing all components. Performed remaining life assessment and developed long term maintenance strategy. • Analyzed station air heaters to increase efficiency and decrease maintenance issues by designing new sector plate, installing new cold end baskets and primary air dampers• Directed full redesign of secondary coal crusher house. Goal was to increase coal flow 50% while decreasing plugging, dust creation, maintenance, and operation intervention. Full design was completed but was never implemented for budgetary reasons. • Designed repair components for damaged high pressure valve to maintain plant operation while sourcing new state of the art replacement valve. Valve operated successfully for 2 years until next major outage. • Redesigned coal transition chutes and skirt boards to increase coal flow, prevent spillage, and reduce dust creation. • Member of the Emergency Response Team for 9 years, 5 of those years as second in command. Lead practices and mocks, trained team members on high angle rescue, confined space and firefighting and rescue. • Chaired the Admin safety committee for 2 years, member of the station Safety Committee. Reviewed plant glove usage and worked to bring in cut resistant gloves that reduced hand injuries over 30%.
