About Cole Meyer
I'm an incoming NSF Fellow in the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory at the University of Arizona, excited to work under Professor Walt Harris. My primary research focuses on developing Reflective Spatial Heterodyne Spectrometer (RSHS) technology and flying it on a NASA sounding rocket. I also have a keen interest in the interactions between energetic particles and planetary space environments. Previously, my research concentrated on Jupiter’s fascinating moons, particularly Callisto, and I look forward to expanding my studies to other celestial bodies. In addition to my research, I am passionate about scientific outreach. At Princeton, I founded the astronomy club, fostering a vibrant community where students could engage with and explore their interest in astronomy through observing nights, guest lectures, and collaborative projects. Moreover, I spearheaded the revival of the university's research journal, providing an essential platform for students to publish and share their scientific discoveries, thereby enhancing their academic profiles and encouraging a culture of research and inquiry. My experience in leadership has been both rewarding and instrumental in shaping my future aspirations. Leading the astronomy club and managing the research journal at Princeton honed my skills in team-building, project management, and effective communication. These experiences have fueled my ambition to manage a research team in the future, where I can guide and inspire others to push the boundaries of our knowledge and achieve groundbreaking discoveries in planetary science.
