Cole Roberts leads the Urban Energy Business for Arup in North and South America. He is also a leader in the energy and sustainability teams in Arup’s San Francisco/Oakland offices. Specializing in design, planning, and consultation in the new and existing built environment, Cole has contributed to hundreds of projects that are positively shaping the world. His work ranging from individual buildings to climate positive communities, from energy and climate policy to in-the-ground infrastructure, is recognized as unconventional, inspiring, and synergistic. Cole's multi-disciplinary team and Arup collaborators include experts in sustainable approaches to energy & carbon, resilience, water & ecology, waste & materials, health & wellness, data & information, finance & procurement, futures & visioning, mobility & transportation, and third party certification - truly a unique ensemble unmatched in the industry.Cole has been a keynote speaker at numerous gatherings, including ACEEE, the Center for the Built Environment, and the World Business Council on Sustainable Development. He is a published contributor to industry resources and mainstream media. He is a frequent guest lecturer at Stanford University and the University of California at Berkeley. In 2013, he co-authored the book “Two Degrees – Our Built Environment and the Changing Climate” with chapters on climate adaptation, the psychology of choice, and climate positive communities (among others). Recently, Cole has led the WeatherShift initiative - intended to bridge the divide between climate science and design practice by producing future climate data for more than 10,000 cities around the world.
