Alongside my final year studies, I am supporting placement students at the University of Exeter, by offering advice, sharing my experience and researching into opportunities. The role so far has allowed me to be creative by producing informative aids, as well as generating ideas for boosting the uptake of placement students across the university. The flexibility of this role enables me to work alongside another student as part of a team, in addition to working remotely and independently.

Between my second and final year of university, I completed a professional placement within the SW Sustainability Team at Hoare Lea. During this year in industry, I gained an insight into sustainability within the built environment, learning the processes behind each project and applying my existing university knowledge into my work. Throughout my placement year, I helped undertake BREEAM assessments and other certification schemes such as WELL and Fitwel. In addition to this, I completed UK Building Regulations Part L compliance assessments using Elmhurst (SAP) and IES for both domestic and non-domestic sectors retrospectively.

After completing the first stage of the Green Consultants programme at the University of Exeter, I participated in a sustainability project that focused on waste and rates of recycling at the University’s Streatham Campus, offering solutions of how to improve current rates for the client. The project, which I completed alongside two other students, focused on using observations data and survey data to analyse behaviour and gain insight into the opinions of the waste system at the university. I played a key part in the organizional aspect of the project, by keeping in touch with the client and scheduling appropriate team and client meetings. Finally, as a team we presented our findings to the client in a form of a report, summarising the solutions that are likely to have a part in the decisions made by the client in the future.
