From AEA to Jacobs the main technical R and D studies have been consistent. Main activities include:-Data generation and interpretation for materials and temperatures relevant to high temperature energy plant and automotive applications. The main areas of study relate to creep-fatigue initiation studies, residual stress and strain instability. -Mechanical properties derivation and materials characterisation of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels, along with their associated weld materials. -Generation, analysis and interpretation of fatigue, creep and creep-fatigue test data for austenitic for the development of international design codes for high temperature plant. -Material lifetime predictions based on creep and fatigue damage summations involving both time and strain-based creep damage approaches.

Main activities:-Successful outsourcing of a wide range of automotive components by reducing component manufacture costs by reviewing performance, application, heat treatment practice, tooling, quality control and environmental issues. -Failure examination and materials characterisation of automotive components.
