Manager - Livestock LogisticsRivalea Australia Sep 2007 - Jun 2008Corowa, NswIn this role I was required to manage the transport network conducting the daily movement of livestock from farm to farm and to processing plants in NSW, VIC and SA. Stock movement occurred from Sunday to Friday and required weekly planning and communication between company owned and contractor production sites, contract transport operators and the processing facilities to which all Rivalea's pigs were delivered. My skills in scheduling and communication as well as rapid issue response and problem solving were key assets in this role. -
Trial Co-Ordinator/Genetics ManagerRivalea Australia Jul 2000 - Aug 2007Corowa, NswCommencing employment with Rivalea (then BUNGE Meat Industries) as a Trial Co-ordinator I was responsible for the daily management and performance recording of pigs being evaluated under a variety of trial protocols, Research was conducted to investigate variations in nutrition, management, health and genetics and to establish the baseline parameters for cost effective pig production. With a natural inclination towards genetics, I progressed to assisting with and then managing the day to day operations of Australia's largest pig genetic nucleus program. Responsibilities included the management of performance recording systems, genetic evaluation and selection of replacement breeding stock in the nucleus populations. I was also responsible for the planning and management of an extensive Health Improvement Program across multiple production sites. Our research partnership with the University of Armidale lead to joint publishing of a range of scientific papers in pig genetic improvement. Skills that were particularly valuable in this role were system design, implementation and management and the ability to work with staff across variety of disciplines to achieve agreed outcomes. -

While in this role I researched and prepared briefings and reports on a range of sectors and markets. I was an integral part of the Live Export Development Program which allowed live cattle export suppliers to conduct in-market research in Indonesia and the Philippines. I also provided extensive marketing support for industry bodies in the Queensland horticultural and aquaculture industries. As my first job out of University I brought enthusiasm and curiosity to the role. These attributes were then honed through training and experience to focus on quantifying market feedback and improving the marketing and communication skills of my rural clients.
