About Colin Thomson

I'm a Senior Software Engineering Manager at JPMorgan Chase. I'm responsible for the team that develop our technical help portal software. That means I'm accountable for the development and support of the application, managing the risk and controls agenda, and people management and career development of my team. Prior to this I spent 25 years at BT where I experienced a variety of different roles in IT. There is not much in enterprise IT I haven't encountered.I followed the traditional route of being a software developer and then team leader on a number of interesting projects from writing transactions on BT's mainframe systems, middleware services, airline entertainment systems, and call handling systems for BT's 999 and 100 operators.I then spent a number of years as a solution designer/architect working on CRM systems for BT's mobile service and also designing solutions to improve how BT handled customer problems on voice, broadband and mobile products.Leading teams is what I enjoy though and so I then took an opportunity to help build and lead a new apps development team. I led the design and build of the BT Wifi Android app among others.Having established that team I spent a number of years building a team in our Glasgow and Bangalore Global Development Centres to support and enhance SDLC tooling. This culminated in me leading several agile squads to deliver new services in Collaboration, DevOps and Cloud as part of BT's recent Da Vinci IT Transformation programme. As Product Owner and also Engineering manager I delivered a number of key services which thousands of IT professionals and Business stakeholders in BT use on a daily basis.I'm experienced in recruiting, mentoring and developing the careers of less-experienced engineers and I also have extensive experience of working with third party suppliers and partnering with other organisations. The teams I built were a mix of BT employees and contractors from various IT organisations both in the UK and globally. I enjoy working for a large global business with the opportunities that brings both for personal development and challenges. I also thrive on building effective working relationships with a diverse network of contacts to collaborate together to deliver success. I'm looking forward to a long and enjoyable career with JPMC.

Also did a bit of busness process design and systems integration and operational readiness testing which was not my job!
