As Vice President for Alumni and Donor Engagement, I lead a team dedicated to supporting the University of Iowa through thoughtful and innovative engagement and programming—overseeing alumni engagement, annual giving, communication and marketing, events, and stewardship efforts.

Responsible for leading University-wide efforts to increase the visibility, affinity, and giving participation of University of Chicago alumni worldwide.

Reporting to the Dean of the Harris School of Public Policy, served as the Chief Development Officer for the school and advisor to the Dean. Managed a team of professionals responsible for a comprehensive suite of alumni programing, education, and giving programs.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Programs, I was primarily responsible for planning, directing, and implementing a large, successful, annual fund program to raise unrestricted support and associated class and parent giving from more than 115,000 undergraduate alumni and parents.Provided overall strategic direction and leadership to Penn’s broad-based solicitation programs, which are designed to maximize current annual giving from alumni, parents, and friends in support of the University's goals and priorities.Collaborated with the Office of Alumni Relations on many projects, including identifying new volunteer leadership, increasing the diversity of the volunteer base, especially among younger alumni, and ensuring the success of reunion-class fundraising efforts. Served as executive sponsor for the Senior Class Gift drive, and recent graduate development activities.

Provided leadership for the annual strategic planning process, developed The Penn Fund's marketing plan, monitored plan implementation, and measured results.Implemented best-in-class fundraising practices and innovative approaches to broad-based fundraising and consistently measured results.Developed segmentation, contact strategies, and messaging based on effective research consistent with The Penn Fund's objectives.Coordinated development and production of all direct mail pieces, including The Penn Fund's listings in People Supporting Penn, Annual Reports, and The Penn Fund Draft and Final Honor Rolls.Oversaw The Penn Fund's telemarketing functions with fellow Development and Alumni Relations leadership.Integrated new technology and social media practices – web, Facebook, Twitter, etc. - into the various marketing strategies and channels.

For the School of Public Administration I taught three courses. The first, Organizational Leadership and Management, uses a series of pre-recorded interviews with local and national leaders in an effort to connect textbook learning with real life case studies and examples.The second, non-profit fundraising, is an intensive course on the best practices of fundraising. Students interview local fundraising professionals to gain insight into many organizations and put together mock grant making agencies. I also taught a graduate-level seminar on this topic.Finally, I taught non-profit organizations. This course centers on the history, operation and management of non-profit organizations. Students learn through the use of case studies, textbook readings, and an assignment through which they adopt a local non-profit and provide recommendations based on their learning in class.

Developed and coordinated the annual giving portion of comprehensive fundraising programs for all collegiate units of The University of Iowa (11 colleges, four specific departments, 233,000 living alumni).Defined and implemented effective direct mail, Telefund, Internet, and email solicitation strategies.Worked with major gift officers to provide budget and performance projections and benchmarks.Regularly analyzed the performance of collegiate annual giving programs and made strategic recommendations for cost-effectiveness and ROI.Developed recommendations for donor development, solicitation, and alumni participation improvement.Evaluated local and national trends for opportunities to increase revenue and donor participation.Coordinated with internal staff to develop efficient procedures for project completion.Lead creative development for direct marketing collateral and messaging.Directed IT data requests for donor segmentation.

Developed long and short-range plans to address computer training requirements for the Administrative Applications division of UIHC Health Care Information Systems.Defined and monitored project priorities, requirements, and timelines for Administrative Applications training staff; supervised 2 FTE.Developed custom computer system training and instructional materials for UIHC Medical Assistants. Assisted with implementing an updated Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) Survey.Participated in patient self-check-in kiosk design and interface testing.Participated in CIO-led enterprise-wide project planning and coordination meetings.Supervised and coordinated the preparation, testing, screen coding, and implementation of training programs for new Health Care Information Systems applications.

Inaugural recipient of the James A. Socknat Fellowship in Tertiary Education at The World Bank. Assigned research projects focused on quality assurance, quality management, and performance measures for tertiary education programs in developing countries—additional inquiry into distance learning networks, information and communication technologies, and human development.Conducted research on the higher education accreditation process in developing countries.Researched the use of distance education in higher education to promote sustainable economies.Reviewed current best practices on health care worker training programs in Europe and Africa.Reviewed current best practices on global career guidance and information systems programs in Latin America, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa.Reviewed all World Bank-funded education projects relating to quality assurance and created a searchable inventory database for project team leaders.

Designed and authored domestic and international training programs for current and legacy products manufactured by Intermec Technologies.Delivered hands-on technical training to multi-national and cross-cultural adult audiences in Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia.Conducted a comprehensive review of all departmental training deliverables and contributed to design and development standardization.Managed national and international end-user technology training programs for high-profile customers.Managed internal and external resources assigned to the project team.Managed relationships and contracts for and between Intermec, clients, and vendors.Responsible for project billing and reporting to all project stakeholders.
