I have been working in the site loss sector for over 15 years within charitable organisations. I have held several roles within the sector, using my own lived experience to support other blind and partially sighted people to achieve their employment, goals and reach for their own aspirational outcomes. As a welfare rights officer for action for blind people, I supported clients to maximise their income, claim, statutory entitlements and move to more suitable living accommodation. I am a huge advocate for Guide dogs as becoming a guide, dog owner, nearly 20 years ago, changed my life, completely given me the opportunity to support my peers in a more effective way. The confidence that a guide dog can give to people cannot be underestimated.Currently, I work for the macular Society as the working age and young peoples service manager. after joining them Macular Society , nine years ago, as a regional manager, I took up this role as I was given the opportunity to develop a service that was aimed at people with macular disease who were a working age, young people or parents of a child with macular disease. After three years, the Macular Society has created a co-produced sustainable service, which is supporting thousands of working age and young people on and annual basis to, again, achieve their aspirations and personal goals with employment, technology or with peer support. The Macular Society is a fantastic place to work supporting blind and partially sighted people with macular disease in a forward-thinking way and I am proud to be part of the amazing staff team who are trying to #BeatMacularDisease
