I joined Herbert as Technical Director in 1999 having first spent 8 years in semiconductor research, starting with Low Temperature Physics and ending in the design & test of Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) for military radar & the European Space Agency (ESA). I moved on to head up the R&D team of an SME that designed, manufactured and sold Near Infrared spectrometers for composition (fat, protein & moisture) testing around the globe.I identified Zinwave in 2010 as having the best in class in-building DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems) technology and first introduced it into Herbert's Healthcare business in 2012, resulting in the first UK installation of a Zinwave DAS in Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, UK in 2014. I now lead the Zinwave DAS business in Herbert where our outstanding Retail Break-Fix and Installation capabilities fit very well with the demands of DAS in UK & ROI Office buildings, Shopping Malls, Transport Hubs and Hospitals, and borne out by significant wins in commercial property & nhs hospitals.Previously I was responsible for identification & development of technical solutions for Tier 1 & 2 UK Food Retailers’ in-store operations and Mobile communications in hospitals, including:-Infrared Checkout Queue Counting camera technology in 2003 for TescoDevelopment of a statistical model for predicting arrival of shoppers at the checkout up to 45mins ahead.Development of an image recognition system for a “Scan As You Shop” scale prototype in 8 weeks to distinguish between fruit & vegetable and high shrinkage (theft) items.Image recognition PoC for Coca Cola Enterprises PoC for Field Sales Agents to automatically count CCE & rival product facings in retailer’s fridges.Voice recognition system so Tesco checkout staff could read out bar codes that don't scan, instead of typing in, saving ~70% of the time, without any changes to the EPOS software.Electronic Shelf Edge Labels.In-Building Tracking Solutions, which lead on to Zinwave
