Following the completion of my summer ML assessment in May 2023, I have been operating my own venture as "Moors to Mountains" advertising and leading my own guided walks, or taking private bookings as an ML across the north west. I am also open to freelance work for other providers.This has allowed me to apply a lot of my existing promotion and marketing experience from the music industry to reach out to a completely new audience. So far, I have successfully built a modest base of regular clients and lead professionally guided walking activities across the Lake District, the Peak District and the West Pennine Moors on a regular basis.

Town centre retail outlet offering sheet music, instruments and accessories, repairs and music tuition. Alongside regular shop management tasks, my time at Booth’s has been spent exploring different areas including:• Operation of a busy music school, in which my role involves management and coordination of a team of music tutors and hundreds of students weekly. Regular tasks involve organising tuition schedules, ensuring suitable teaching staff are available when needed, recruitment and of course ensuring that students and parents are happy with the service offered.• Conception and design of promotional materials for use in store, as advertisements in media publications and online. Extensive use of social media to help grow the business, advertise particular products or run promotional campaigns.• Responsible for the daily operation, presentation and overall direction of a busy retail outlet. My main duties here include overseeing buying of stock, running promotions in store to drive sales, interacting with trade representatives, sourcing specific products from wholesalers and developing trade relationships with relevant organisations and industry professionals.• Other general administration tasks such as compiling large orders for local schools and businesses, invoicing and stock taking, often designing and programming original spread sheets for specific purpose.Previous roles have included..• Successful design, development and coordination of a busy online store, shipping sheet music and goods across the world. Further expansion of the site has led to the need to utilise various SEO techniques and innovative web site planning to compete against many online competitors.• Operation of a demanding mail order service. This involves processing customer orders and compilation of an extensive customer database. • Coordination of a number of successful indoor and outdoor live music events, showcasing musicians affiliated with Booth’s Music store.

Since 2011, I have been able to apply my love for the outdoors along with relevant skills and knowledge to build a regular programme of walks and weekend camping or residential events where people from the local community have been able to come along and benefit from exercise and helpful mental stimulation in the way of improving their well being and de-stressing.This informal organisation has become popular within my local community for the above mentioned reasons. I am very happy to have been able to direct my time and energy into something that I can enjoy as a hobby and yet has been incredibly beneficial to members of society who might not have otherwise had the inclination to get out in the great outdoors.While the regular weekly walk meetings are conducted around my local area of the West Pennine Moors, the walking group has also led me to organise trips to locations such as the Lake District, Snowdonia, the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales and, occasionally, Scotland. With this level of activity, there can often be demanding challenges with route planning and other logistics such as arranging accommodation and transportation to create walks and trips suitable to the desires or limitations of those group members in attendance.To further my skills and experience that are applicable to this role, I undertook a Mountain Leader training course in May 2021.

Hosting regular and very popular "jam" sessions for musicians of all styles and abilities. Duties involved operating the PA and backline, hosting as compere, sourcing reputable acts from around the area to come along and take part, design of promotional materials, marketing the the event across the north west.

Extreme music mixing grind, hardcore, crust, metal...

Talent Pool was an artist development and promotions service based in Bolton town centre. Because of my university studies at the time, I was heavily involved with the ideology of the project. Alongside housing a customised recording facility, the intention was to raise the profile of artists, musicians and songwriters in the north west area and provide a professional recording service at a reasonable cost.

"Epic" metal band fusing thrash and melodic heavy metal with ambient soundscapes with a positive message.

Performing in a heavy metal band in the town led me to become involved with promoting events and booking acts in 2004, under the guise of “Bolton Metal Alliance”. Alongside weekly gigs, usually showcasing unsigned talent from across the UK, I have also been responsible for promoting and coordinating larger events at various venues in the North West area, and booking signed touring bands, building a credible reputation and a sturdy relationship with many bands and booking agencies.

Small town centre music venue, regular events ranging from weekly gigs to sporadic all day "festivals".

I have recently taken up the position playing bass guitar in Jacknife after a lineup change. JKH produces sludgey stoner type extreme metal music and are relatively established within the UK metal scene with a number of high-profile live events to the band's name, including Download Festival.

S.O.W.I.M. was an extreme sludge/doom metal band formed from the ashes of underground grincore legends Squalbalkus. The band performed a number of live events and recorded two demos before disbanding.

Although the group is currently in a bit of hiatus due to other commitments of the members, The Hoopleheads is comedy hillbilly bluegrass/rock project with two demo recordings available and a number of live appearanced under the belt.

Displacement became a well respected and tight thrash unit over the duration of over five years. The music created was both melodic and heavy with a variety of influences. My time with the band was largely spent in a self-management role, booking regular weekly gigs and organising promotion.

Promoting live music in Bolton led me to become involved with the management of the Soundhouse, a 500-capacity town centre live music venue. Initially my involvement was to assist with physically building the event room from scratch although I soon became involved with promotions and I have managed a great deal of events on behalf of the Soundhouse and my own guise “Bolton Metal Alliance”. Unfortunately the venue changed hands and has now closed.

Noisy metal band from Bolton, I joined for a short spell after their original bassist left. The band performed a number of local gigs and I participated on one recording during my time in the band.
