I am a seasoned UI artist and designer with many titles under my belt. My pragmatic and technical approach has taken me from being an individual contributor to lead of a team of Technical Designers who are responsible for building and implementing all UIs in an upcoming AAA title.I started my journey in the “olden” days when typography was done by hand and paste-up with wax machines. From an early education in fine arts, I went on to study Visual Communications, which led to my humble origins in prepress and typesetting Yellow Pages ads.With the advent of the Internet, my career headed towards web design and development while working at TELUS. During the web browser search engine wars of the late 90s I picked up Flash 3 and taught myself the basics. Later courses in ActionScript upped my game.Working alongside an Information Architect at Pangaea Systems, I received my first introduction to card sorting and paper prototyping. Hmmm… there just might be something with this user experience stuff.After years of honing my craft as a web developer at BioWare, I moved onto the game team as a UI artist. Since then, I have helped launch Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem. As time progressed my technical leanings guided me more towards implementation of UIs rather than conceptualization.I now work as manager and lead for the UI Technical Design team on the next Dragon Age game.
