    DynamoDB backed Finagle service - July 2016SDL SeattleTransistion to cloud by migrating Hbase backed production service to DynamoDB using Kafka / Mapreduce / and Spark. Using mapreduce application I wrote to export Hbase into Kafka utilizing the Protobuf Seriliazation format. Setup Kafka mirror in AWS to replicate messages between AWS Kafka and private data center Kafka. Creating EMR / Spark job to consume messages from AWS Kafka into DynamoDB. Built Finagle / Thrift based Scala RPC service to be backed by DynamoDB. Owning all components of Design, Deployment, Development, and Test. Developing seamless migration requiring no downtime.HBase backed Finagle service migration - April 2016SDL SeattleHBase backed production finagle service was going down frequently bringing down data pipeline. Investigation assumed issues likely caused by bugs in production HBase .92.1 database. Because HBase API broke between .98 and .92, required custom migration path.Chose Kafka as "migration buffer", allowing reuse for further migrations. Created mapreduce application to export messages into Kafka. Created Kafka consumer Spark appllication to import messages into an updated HBase. Updated Finagle Thrift to use updated HBase.Developed a testing strategy to compare entries between services.Owning all components of Design, Deployment, Development, and Test. Seemless live migration approach required no service downtime. Happy to say no sign of failure after a four months in production Therefore solution addressed motivating issue.
