Colin Clark has over 25 years of experience in the field of inclusive design and access technology. He has led accessibility teams in the research and non-profit sectors, developed large-scale assistive technology systems, and contributed to the development of new community-led design methods.Colin also works with accessible creative technology, including AI-based motion tracking, haptics, and interactive sound and video systems. He is the developer of several widely-used creative technology frameworks, including osc.js, Flocking, and Signaletic. His artistic software frameworks and tools aim to address the systemic gaps between prototyping and production, supporting realtime interoperability across many different platforms and device capabilities, and enabling "continued design," in which systems can be changed in unanticipated ways by their users.Colin’s design approach emphasizes the use of participatory action research and direct design methods led by communities. Partnering with disability, civic, and labour organizations, this involves critically examining the practices and methods of inclusive design, adapting them to prioritize user governance and ownership of technology platforms. This research program has been driven by significant grant-funded projects such as Data Communities for Inclusion, Co-Designing Inclusive Cities, and Weavly. Resulting from these projects is the Community-Led Design Kit, an open resource documenting new methods for socially engaged designers, co-created with communities.
