A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Mechanical Design Engineer
Carrying out concept and detailed design work in the area of aerospace research and development.
Director
Mechanical design services and projects, specialising in 3D CAD based design and associated activities.
Mechanical Design Engineer
Completion of design work on high speed food packaging machinery. Solidworks, EPDM
Design Engineer
Work on special purpose machinery and instrumentation design. Design work completed using Solidworks and Siemens NX9.0. Projects included design modifications, improvements and additions to an existing machine and instrumentation designs for a gas turbine test rigs featuring strain, metal temperature, air temperature and pressure measurements. Also heavily involved in the design and detailing of slip rings.
Design Consultant
Design of test rigs/equipment for aerospace R&D projects.
Project Design Engineer
Working on mechanical design projects in the Special Applications department.
Contract Design Engineer
Currently working with Aerodyn Ltd on instrumentation schemes for aero engine rig testing projects.
Contract Development Engineer
I returned to Chemring to work on new product developments. I also got heavily involved in writing Safety Case Reports for Chemring's range of Legacy products. Delivered Saftey Case Reports on schedule.
Contract Solidworks Design/Draughtsman
Worked on the design and detailing on an electro-magnetic stirring machine. The contract entailed taking an almost complete design making various modifications and producing engineering drawings of all the constituent parts, fabrications and sub-assemblies.
Contract Solidworks Consultant
I was approached by Flowstream to tender for the modeling and detail drawings for two of their ranges of globe valves (process control valves). The work involved individually modeling the cast valve bodies from legacy 2d hand drawings, producing a configured model for each valve with 'as cast' and 'as machinied' configurations in each file.As many of the internal components featured common geometry I advised Flowstream that it would be great to use spreadsheet driven configured models where possible. Having modeled the valve components using this technique has enbled them to produce further designs by simply filling out a line in a spreadsheet.I completed 11 valve assemblies using this technique for them and worked in design changes which became apparent during 3d modeling. I also produced 2d detail drawings of all bodies and component parts generarated.
Design Technician
Working in the Engineering and Technology department on the development of new products and completing 3D CAD projects in SolidWorks 2012. Also worked on the implementation of Workgroup PDM.
Contract Project & Design Engineer
Working on design projects on special purpose machinery, tooling and fixtures primarily for Tec’s clients in the automotive, industrial and aerospace sectors. Along with 3D design work using SolidWorks, I was actively involved in component specification, procurement, material selection, client liaison and also identified and implemented improved use of SolidWorks within the design team.
Contract Solidworks Design Engineer
– Initially providing extra design resource during a particularly busy period, I was able to advise Bioflame on sound working practices in SolidWorks, especially pertaining to pipe-work routing and assembly structuring for large scale plant layouts. I completed project related design including 3d modeling and 2d drawing work on 2 ‘energy from waste’ projects, creating pipe-work assemblies using routing, sheet metal components and equipment models using SoldWorks ‘Sheet metal’ and ‘Weldments’. I also set up both equipment and routing libraries and suggested the use of Workgroup PDM for file management to further increase productivity in the design office. I have subsequently provided training on ‘Routing’ & ‘Workgroup PDM’ to Bioflame’s design team
Contract Mechanical Design Engineer
At SEaB I was tasked with the production design for a fully automated containerized anaerobic digester and was also heavily involved commercially with a 50/50 split. This required the specification and procurement of bespoke tank designs, pumps, compressors, support fabrications, frameworks, valves, instruments and the associated pipe-work. I also worked closely with process and electrical engineers to develop the process and control philosophy of the system/design which was under defined and ambiguous at the start of the project
Contract Design Draughtsman
During my time with Monsal I used Solidworks to design large scale site and plant layouts in 3D for Monal's clients in the waste water & waste recycling sectors. My time here was split between project design work and developing the company's Solidworks standard part library and design methodologies. The client was delighted with the improvements made in design office. Waste water plant designs undertaken generally consisted of tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, compressors, coolers, interconnecting pipework, valves and instruments. All pipework routes were designed with Solidworks routing.
Contract Solidworks Design Engineer
In this contract role I have been responsible for the design of bespoke chemical dosing equipment principally sold into the Power generation and Utilities markets. Working closely with Project managers to develop workable cost effective solutions from the client's design specification, P & ID's and site surveys. Designing chemical dosing skids typically consisting of pumps, valves, instrumentation, pipe work and associated fabrications as required. Using Solidworks routing for the design of skids and pipe work.
Design Engineer
In this role I was responsible for the design of 'one off' architectural fabrications typically feature staircases and balustrades for public buildings, balconies, fire escapes and industrial stairs along with smaller fabrications such as signs, gates and window grilles to name but a few. Producing 3d assemblies, components and all associated manufacturing drawings, bills of materials using Solidworks. The role required the ability to research and source bought in components, material selection, knowledge of fabrication/sheet metal work techniques and to effectively collaborate with construction companies/contractors, architects, structural engineers, and production staff/tradesmen to meet project goals.
Contract Mechanical Draughtsman
In this contract position I was responsible for producing CAD drawings of pump assemblies and components for both manufacturing and Flowserve’s client base in the process industry. The position also required a high level of interaction with project managers, other internal contacts and external suppliers.
Design Engineer
In this role I was responsible for managing variety of design projects. This included the design of bespoke electrical & fibre optic connectors, cable assemblies and wiring harness systems for European aerospace and defense clients. Design work included 3D modeling of components and assemblies, creation of 2D manufacturing drawings, bills of materials, material selection and design calculations as required. Other duties include injection mould tooling design, jig and fixture design for assembly and test purposes. In this role it is also necessary to liaise with all internal departments and clients to successfully progress projects through the business. Other duties included supporting the continuous improvement projects throughout the company, mentoring and supervision of junior design engineers.
Applications Engineer
In this role I was responsible for the design/specification of proprietary standard and bespoke products and material selection into a wide variety of customer applications from all industry sectors. Projects could be as simple as one seal or cover a complete system. Typical applications were aerospace hydraulics including primary flight control systems, landing gear and secondary utility systems, hydraulic actuation systems on formula one racing cars and industrial equipment. This was a highly customer focused role where a high proportion of projects stemmed from new technical telephone enquiries and existing account/client management. I was responsible for creating a design log for each project including justifications for material selection, design calculations and CAD work where required.
Cad Engineer
In this role I was responsible for the creation of all the 2D and 3D CAD work required for production working to design logs produced by applications engineers. I was also responsible for management of the CAD system, standard libraries and automation/improvement projects.
