Completed research and quality improvement projects under the mentorship of Dr. Jonathan Litt, MD, MPH, ScD.• Conducted a literature review of all risk prediction tools developed in the past twenty-five years for predicting the functional outcomes of preterm neonates.• Wrote an analysis comparing the strengths and weaknesses of these tools as well as how their development and validation can be improved upon in the future, such as the inclusion of more psychosocial variables known to be risk factors for poor outcomes as well as predicting outcomes beyond neurodevelopmental impairment.• Developed a research project for the Boston Children’s Hospital Infant Follow-Up Program (IFUP) assessing the care coordination service needs of patients presenting to the IFUP outpatient clinic.• Transferred the Boston Children’s Hospital Pediatric Integrated Care Survey (PICS) to a REDCap database for electronic survey administration, as well as developing an algorithm to calculate each PICS score automatically.• Designed a workflow within the IFUP clinic that incorporated the PICS into patient care.

Coordinated and executed clinical research studies for Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJMC) as well as Cohen Children's Medical Center (CCMC). Tasks included screening and enrolling patients, editing and submitting research proposals to the Institutional Review Board, submitting necessary modifications, entering and analyzing data, and preparing abstracts and manuscripts for publication.Implemented performance improvement initiatives at both sites, conducting patient satisfaction surveys in the LIJ Emergency Department and leading the Breathe-ED initiative at CCMC. Managed numerous databases on REDCap for various research projects and produced monthly Quality Assurance reports regarding the Clinical Decision Unit to be circulated throughout the ED administration.Performed administrative tasks such as co-coordinating the Northwell Health Emergency Medicine Research Internship Program along with a Hofstra University summer course in clinical research, recruiting for the Academic Associate program, and compiling metrics and scholarly activity for the 2015 LIJ ED Annual Report to the Northwell Health Emergency Medicine Service Line.

Examined protein localization mechanisms involving the swallow protein (swa) within Drosophila melanogaster oogenesis.Utilized methods in tissue staining, Fluorescent in situ Hybridization (FISH), Drosophila genetic crossing, and confocal microscopy.Also worked towards identifying the genetic mutation responsible for fs(1)234, a phenotype that results in germline breakdown in oogenesis.Utilized methods in primer design, PCR, gDNA isolation, gel electrophoresis, and DNA sequence analysis.

I worked with Dr. Fiorotto studying levels of phosphorylation in Upstream binding factor (UBF) and Retinoblastoma protein (Rb) within the skeletal muscles of mice that underwent various dietary regimens. UBF and Rb phosphorylation are known to increase ribosome synthesis in the skeletal muscle; we therefore wish to see if Rb and UBF phosphorylation could explain the skeletal muscle growth that took place in mice who were initially fed a low protein diet in their first eleven days of life before receiving a normal diet.Techniques utilized were Western Blotting, Coomassie Blue staining, BCA Protein Assays, and surgical extraction of the gastrocnemius, soleus, and extensor digitorum longus muscles from mice.

I worked with Dr. Sheppard to develop antibody–derived single–chain variable fragments (scFvs) meant to target airway smooth muscle cells and kill them, thereby reducing the overall volume of airway smooth muscle in patients prone to severe asthma attacks.Utilized transfection, transformation, spin column centrifugation, flow cytometry, Western blotting, Coomassie blue staining, and cell adhesion assay techniques to achieve results.

Assisted in preparing Microbiology and Physiology labs.
