Colin Helms is an award-winning content exec, brand strategist and organizational transformer. His three decades of leadership work at renowned ideas and culture orgs such as TED, MTV and Complex Media have driven record audience and revenue growth, and helped reshape the way the brands develop and deploy content to remain relevant to increasingly difficult-to-reach viewers, listeners and readers. Currently as Chief Brand Officer for The Conduit, Colin oversees the global content, brand and marketing strategy for the purpose-driven community and membership club.As TED’s Head of Media, Colin led a content, distribution and marketing team that expanded the global reach of the TED Talk while developing a wholly new content portfolio: the TED Audio Collective, now ranked as one of the world’s largest independent podcast networks; the multi award-winning “TEDTok” channel; an industry-leading LinkedIn channel; multiple high-engagement newsletters; and a community-driven membership program featuring exclusive monthly live interviews and discussions. He also established the org’s first audience development and data-driven insights function, expanded its global business development and licensing efforts and served as a core member of its executive leadership team. As the Senior Vice President of Connected Content at MTV, Colin oversaw the brand’s digital transformation and growth for over a decade. He built the brand’s entire digital media ecosystem from a single website to a robust network of multiple Webby- and Emmy-honored channels and platforms. He also created the digital content studio MTV(Other), helped manage the transition of MTV News into a digital news organization, and spearheaded the innovation of live event “co-viewing” experiences on all the brand’s screens, earning a Shorty for Best Integration of Social Media with Live Television.Described by colleagues as an authentic and compassionate manager who leads with smarts and integrity, Colin is highly skilled in building and directing happy, successful, cross-functional teams, both in person and remotely.
