Technology is transforming the way we interact with our students and creating new possibilities for teaching and learning. Our kids are growing up in one of the most difficult and exciting times in the history of our Country and the World. As teachers, we live in the future preparing children for a world that is literally beyond our imagination. For this reason, I believe that we have to find innovative ways to ‘do’ school. We can no longer persist with an approach that prepares children for a world that no longer exists. As a School Head, I continuously have to make discretionary judgements in situations of manifest uncertainty. I lead a complex institution, moving from the middle of one thing to the middle of the next with scant time in-between to reflect and little relationship between them. As a husband and parent, I live with love and support, able to give my child the kind of upbringing that very few children are privileged to receive. As a person, I am constantly challenged to create the kind of relationships that leave people feeling like they have been listened to and recognised for the good that they did and guided to discover better ways of solving the problems that they encounter. I also have to find time to be with myself, reading books, playing computer games and watching action movies. I am a member of a profession that provides me with opportunities to influence change in the community and find ways to have a positive impact in the world.
