The Citizen Science Lab: A hands-on laboratory where inquisitive minds and science-enthusiasts can explore the life sciences! The Citizen Science Lab is open to everyone—from middle and high school students, to parents and educators, to undergraduate and graduate students, to professionals and DIY scientists. We invite the citizens of Pittsburgh to observe, experiment and analyze through discovery-based learning and STEM education.My role at the Citizen Science Lab is to conduct and assist in teaching educational workshops to students ages 3rd grade and up, as well as laboratory maintenance, setup, and improvement.

MakeItMatter is a Pittsburgh-based startup aiming to solve many of the smaller problems encountered in the world today in order to make a cumulatively big difference. MakeItMatter is centered on the idea that everyone needs something. Whether it is something as small as creating a device that removes the human error vector from the process of drawing blood, something as big as creating remotely activated nanoparticles that can improve the healing rate of small wounds, or something as innovative as using drones to resolve hazardous road conditions, MakeItMatter does it all.

The Hyperion Drone Project involves the creation, prototyping, and development of an unmanned vehicle designed to detect potholes in city streets. Potholes are a leading cause of accidents in many cities, and this problem is poorly addressed in most jurisdictions. Utilizing a combination of novel aerial vehicle design and a computational image analysis program and selective object filtration that I developed, potholes and other unexpected obstructions can become a thing of the past.

My responsibilities include spectroscopy research, cancer cell culture, assisting with and designing experiments, and engineering new equipment. More recently, I have begun research on Total Internal Reflection Photoacoustic Spectroscopy (TIRPAS) to develop a detection method for pigmented substances such as melanoma and tagged bacteriophage.
