Originally hired by Whatcom Educational Credit Union (WECU) in 1997 to provide IT guidance and technical expertise, I earned multiple promotions to become a vice president within the IT organization in less than 10 years. I built a fully functioning IT department from a two-person data processing office. When my tenure with WECU ended, I directed the credit union's three-department, 20-person IT operations, which included service desk, infrastructure, systems administration, and development and was responsible for designing, implementing, and administering all IT services.My team's work was complex and focused on concrete business solutions. Highlights include the following:☒ Leveraging Microsoft Office 365 and Azure to extend the capabilities of our on premises services into the cloud.☒ Negotiating with Microsoft for a 10% discount on the credit union's Microsoft Enterprise Agreement, which allowed us to deploy a common IT platform across the organization at a fraction of the cost.☒ Leading a complex core and ancillary systems selection project that included all host processing, online banking, collections, and loan origination systems.

I continued to grow with the credit union as its IT infrastructure continued to grow, supporting 350 internal users and 80,000 members. In addition to overseeing the IT strategic direction, I supervised the set up of numerous new branch offices as well as the back office operations headquarters and a contact center. Additional highlights / achievements during this time include:☒ Successfully implemented a PMO (Project Management Office) and Security Analytics team, further increasing the project coordination and security capabilities of the organization.☒ Successfully migrating the enterprise from Microsoft Exchange to Office 365 and deploying Skype for Business to create a platform for consistent communications, including video, across the organization.☒ Extending the infrastructure onto the Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform while also enhancing security protocols.☒ Creating a seamless environment for remote access using Microsoft DirectAccess. This allowed us to provide a very user friendly and secure environment for our out of office workers.

Promoted to senior management, I took on the leadership of the entire IT department, strategies, and staff supporting a user community of more than 300. As part of my mandate, I formally created and provided oversight for the Service Desk Team, System Administrators Team, Enterprise Application Administration Team, the Development Team, and the Infrastructure Operations Team. Our infrastructure continued to evolve, and my achievements included:☒ Deployment of the full Microsoft System Center Suite, including Configuration Manager, Service Manager, Operations Manager, and Data Protection Manager, which allowed us to automate management of all workstations and servers.☒ Built dual-redundant data centers that ran VMWare with HP and EMC SANs and upgraded the WAN to point-to-point fiber ring among all sites.☒ Set up video marketing screens and interactive touch screen kiosks at each WECU branch.

After an initial nine months as a mainframe operation, I was put in charge of the planning, deployment, and management of all technology for the credit union. My accomplishments included the following:☒ Deployed an Ethernet LAN and T1-based WAN across 12 locations.☒ Replaced aging IBM mainframe terminals with Windows-based workstations and implemented Microsoft Active Directory domain with Group Policies, Exchange Server, and intranet, as well as a member-facing website.
