Led a ‘Trading’ Portfolio (of £45M T/O) supporting CITB’s wider aims -comprising four businesses employing c500 (directly & sub-contracted):-o Testing – providing 600,000 H&SE tests p.a. and 20,000 plant tests p.a. in 400 centres,o Competence Card Schemes- 300,000 cards issues p.a. (circa 2M cards in circulation),o Cskills Awards – 180,000 vocational.

Led a £70M revenue unit of 170 direct reports and 250 contract field engineers with responsibilities including safety, engineering policy,quality systems, service procurement, customer service and satisfaction - through a period of significant change..

• Turned around a £14M T/O free standing business via increased capacity, process re-engineering and clear leadership. Network of 43 clinics, 200 employees across:- central booking, B2B sales, marketing, finance & HR.
• Strong growth (20% p.a.) from B2B contract wins & innovative spend on B2C marketing,
• Implemented integrated IT, customer feedback technology & multi-site benchmarking

• Start up of a new Business Unit (to £12Mp.a. 4 managers, up to 30 call centre agents and 200 engineers) to deliver improved maintenance services to Financial Institutions across 10,500 ATMs (cash machines). Step.
• Evolved a faster, lower cost service model through up-skilling the 1st line engineer’s role,
• Led successful tender bids for engineering contracts (typically £25M scale over 5 years),
• Strategy/bid to acquire BT’s phone box maintenance (£30M p.a.) and TUPE for 750.

• Contracted to manage critical projects on time and within budget:-
• ‘Front-of-House’ call/transaction centre as first point of contact for 1 million residents.
• Rationalised recruitment (for 4,500 new employees p.a.), procured and appointed a single supplier for (000’s of) temporary staff, outsourced Occupational Health services.This project work was undertaken in parallel.

• Led 3 colleagues to create a business plan to bring USA ‘Self-Storage’ concept to the UK.
• Spearheaded Ernst & Young-backed campaign seeking £12 million in V.C. funding.

• Promoted to oversee all operational and customer service functions across 125 stores and 4 distribution centres. £600M T/O, operating budgets of £110m p.a. capital expenditure of £20m p.a. and up to 4,000 staff. 60 new.
• Initiated productivity measures, reduced shrinkage to 0.7% via barcode scanning,
• Redesigned supply chain, outsourced implementation £16M Cap & £3M p.a. savings,
• Established a customer service centre to track data to informed decision-making.

• Managed operational aspects of new market penetration and supply chain strategy:-
• Facilitated opening 6 stores in South Africa working with a JV partner (Barloworld Ltd.),
• Completed planning/agreement for 60 stores JV in Germany (partner Stinnes A.G.),
• Set up an export unit trading with Russian wholesalers in Moscow, generating £2M T/O

• Managed 11 Super Stores with £45M revenue and circa 400 staff:-
• Facilitated opening 4 new stores, along with 1 major refit project.

Responsible for brand, pricing and profitability of forecourt fuels (£1.4BN of revenue)

• Saved £1.3M p.a. in distribution costs; led team to optimise 1,500 weekly orders
• Led successful ISO 9002 accreditation project across Retail & Distribution operations.
