I have joined my wife in her long-standing consultancy (see 'Company website' www.wordpowerskills.com )Fiona Talbot has written a series of business communication books which were first published internationally by Kogan Page in 2009. 'How to write effective business English' Edition 2 has been published in 2016 in a re-vamped form to focus on writing for social media. A variant of this book has also been published for The Spanish-speaking market as 'Outstanding business English'.A fourth book - on Global Business English - was launched by Kogan Page in late 2012 in the UK, Europe, USA and Brazil. The launch in India was in early March 2013.

I worked in this role on a part-time basis during a time of significant strategic change within Social Care/Health and the ICT challenges were complex.

For the majority of my time in that role I was seconded out of the ICT Department to work directly with the Board and act as the programme manager for the Council-wide service transformation programme which was led by the Chief Executive.

I joined the County Council to manage the implementation (with the aid of a Consultancy partner) of the Oracle e-Business suite to replace all core legacy Financial, Purchasing, HR and Payroll applications. Thereafter I set up the requisite Support and Development functions. Other areas of activity then included the initiation of strategic approaches to CRM and Information Management.

The job was based in The Netherlands (Rotterdam & Rozenburg). This was a secondment from ICI in the UK which I joined after completing my PhD. It was a pivotal and exciting time for ICI Europa when in-house commercial, accounting and plant systems were being replaced by many SAP ERP implementations in various countries, various National VAT legislation changes were being implemented, and Zeneca was demerged from ICI globally. Managing this degree of change across National boundaries was both exciting and challenging.
