Leveraging more than 10 years of experience working across diplomacy and foreign policy, journalism, and strategic communications, Colin is currently helping drive Standard Chartered Bank's government engagement strategy across the ASEAN region. This includes developing and tapping on a strong understanding of the political, regulatory, and policymaking conditions in these regions, and to deliver engagement programmes — around key policy and regulatory issues such as trade, financial markets, sustainable finance, carbon markets, data, crypto, and AI — to help the bank further its strategic objectives.Led by a passion for international relations and policy issues, Colin started his career with the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), where he cut his teeth in the art of diplomacy and promoting the strategic interests of Singapore through building political, trade and defense relations with the US and Canada as part of the North America portfolio. Pursuing his aspiration of representing Singapore in athletics at the 2015 Southeast Asia (SEA) Games, Colin left MFA to dovetail full-time training with part-time work as a sports journalist for Red Sports. He placed 11th in the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2015 SEA Games, and continues to run regularly. Colin’s journalism experience also straddles the spheres of technology and entrepreneurship, during his tenure as a tech correspondent for e27, a leading online media outlet covering tech start-ups and entrepreneurship in APAC. Equally comfortable conversing with ministers as well as CEOs and corporate leaders, Colin is an experienced executive coach who has prepared multiple executives for media and external engagements. A passionate public policy observer, Colin consistently seeks opps to leverage his knowledge in this area to create impact in the work he does. Through his work for Red Sports, he has been a part of dialogues convened by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth on how sports can best serve Singapore in the coming decades as part of the Vision 2030 project; and through his work for Youth.SG, he has engaged with the Singapore Prime Minister in a tea session for youth leaders. He has also interviewed then-Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong on the sporting landscape in Singapore, including policies that support sporting excellence. Through his work at MFA, he has staffed the foreign minister and other principals in meetings and prepared political briefs.
