Colleen Bench is a Associate Vice President, Parents Engagement and Student Experience and Advancement and External Affairs at Syracuse University. Colleagues describe her as "As the director of the Parents Office, Colleen has one of the hardest jobs at our university. Each day, she takes calls from parents who are concerned, upset, frightened, curious, furious, and just about everything in between. For many of our parents at SU, Colleen is their main source of information. They depend on her. And she always seems to know just what to do to help, or the just the right thing to say. Not only is Colleen one of the most knowledgable people on campus, she's also one of the most respected. I don't remember exactly how many years she's been with SU, but everyone seems to know her, and when she's around, people seem a little more cooperative and pleasant. She has an infectious positivity that she brings to her job, and it really puts people at ease. Because she's so good at connecting with people and solving problems, Colleen has become a friend to many families, long after the student graduates. That is the true mark of having made a difference in someone's life. And in our business, making a difference in a life is right up there with giving them the degree."
