Creator/Performer

Ridergirl Productions

Ottawa, On

RiderGirl Productions was formed in 2011 as a collaboration between Colleen Sutton (playwright) and Janet Irwin (dramaturge/director) to create RiderGirl. Our goal was to create a piece of theatre that would not only entertain and engage, but invite a new demographic – sports fans – to the world of theatre. Sharing a passion for new work, and good story telling, Janet and Colleen undertook to tell a uniquely Canadian story about a girl who loves football. With a successful premiere at The Winnipeg Fringe, the show soon found itself in Regina, the heartbeat of the Canadian Football League. In 2013, RiderGirl toured during the summer months and again in November from Ontario to Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba. The performances were coordinated with the Riders road and home game schedule, including the 101st Grey Cup Festival. The show had several bookings in 2014, including GCTC's Undercurrents Festival in February, St. Andrew's College Annual Gala in Saskatoon, as well as several fundraising benefits in Saskatchewan including Oxbow, Bienfait, Weyburn, Meadow Lake, and Tisdale.Encouraged by scores of new or casual theatre-goers attending and enjoying each show, the company intends to continue creating intelligent and provocative theatre that engages through entertainment.Synopsis: A prairie girl is seduced into sports fandom and discovers the rules don’t just apply to the game. Running 80 minutes in length, Colleen Sutton throws herself into multiple characters as she fights for first downs and flags begin to fly. Loaded with laughs, it’s a fast-paced, physical and trash-talking march down the field that will haul your heart into the game.Creator, Perfomer: Colleen SuttonDirector, Dramaturge: Janet IrwinStage Manager: Hilary NicholSound Designer: Jon CarterTechnical Director: William Hales
