As the on-site jobs hub, our role was to make matching the right person with the right job a simple, one-stop process. We provided a free drop-in service for on-site contractors to register their vacancies and for jobseekers to register their interest, ultimately leading to employment for locals. The primary aim was to make job opportunities on this Tier 1 construction site accessible for local candidates. Most KPI's were exceeded during 20 months of operation, including over 800 placements (82% local jobseekers) with contractors, 42 training/work experience candidates and 57 traineeships or apprenticeships. The Work Shop partnership was between the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Lendlease and The Hornery Institute (THI), who took delivery of the service and governance. The Queensland Government is investing $1.8 billion to deliver the Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital project, which will revolutionise healthcare on the Sunshine Coast and create thousands of jobs, including an estimated 1,800 jobs at the peak of construction with 3,500 hospital jobs forecast for 2016 and growing to 6,000 jobs by 2021.For more information including results, jobseeker success stories and contractor testimonials please go to www.myworkshop.net.auAfter The Work Shop finalised operations in November 2016, The Hornery Institute extended my contract for a few months to assist with research and preparing submissions for their workforce development consultancy team.
