I have always been greatly impacted by spaces. As a kid growing up in San Diego, I remember going to Copley Symphony Hall for a performance and being amazed at how small I felt in such a massive, beautiful venue. It was a powerful glimpse into how design makes the world a better place, and how the world is a better place because of design. I am a Design Principal & Studio Leader of our Dallas location and one of four Studio Leaders within ForrestPerkins, which is a distinct design studio within Perkins Eastman. I work with fellow designers and architects to create experiences and spaces that enrich people’s lives. One of my primary responsibilities is not only to hear what clients say, but to also hear what they aren't saying. That means attuning to them, taking everything in, and bringing a comprehensive package back to the table.Although I am equally focused on strategy and creativity, I also enjoy project management, scheduling, crunching numbers and watching company profitability. As a member of the Perkins Eastman Board of Directors, I also focus my skills and leadership on the areas of company culture and creativity, as well as design talent acquisition and retention.As passionate as I am about all those things, at the top of the list is helping people grow and navigate challenges along the way. There is nothing better than having a “team win,” meaning that it’s not about a single individual, but rather it’s about everyone working together to accomplish great things. When a team is credited and recognized for the hard work they do collectively, everyone shines. No matter where I am, my mind never rests. I’m a veracious reader, and enjoy spending time with my children and grandchild. I love to travel, not only because it’s personally fulfilling, but it also helps me be a better designer. When I enter a space that’s planned well, it brings out something inside of me that I haven’t experienced before. It does something to the soul, and that’s what I strive to do for others.
