As Accommodation Support Lead at LJMU, I am the first point of contact for students and staff both internally and externally with our accommodation partners. Supporting our students with any enquiry or concern they have; referring them on as appropriate so that all students have their needs addressed in a safe and sensitive way.Tailoring a student’s support to match their individual needs is fundamental to their success at University. Some want assistance choosing accommodation that supports their health and wellbeing, others are struggling with the demands of communal living. Some, through no fault of their own, are unable to remain in their accommodation and it is my role to ensure there are safeguarding measures in place so that students can flourish within the best environment possible. A huge part of this is open communication with clear confidentiality policies in place to ensure students are aware how sensitive information is shared. Communication is vital with staff at all levels so that any concerns can be raised and taken forward. We all know the Cleaning Teams see all and know all and so on! Relationship management is key to my role and I am proud of the relationships built with our partners over the past 16 years. I have confidence that they will raise concerns about students with me knowing that I will do what I can to support that student in the best way possible. These open lines of communication make resolving issues swift and effective which is best for all parties. I find it encouraging that managers that no longer have a formal relationship with LJMU still call me for guidance and support as they trust in my ability to support the student and provide relevant guidance.Further to the above I also manage the process for our Emergency Accommodation and am part of a small team resolving serious incidents that may occur within our accommodation sites.
