I love solving problems and learning new things. And I’m good at both of those! What I’m not so good at is roller skating. And yet, about ten years ago, I decided to pick up the curious sport of Roller Derby. For those of you who do not know, Roller Derby actually has a lot of rules (any game you need seven refs who can skate backwards faster than you can skate forward is bound to be complicated right?) Turns out I actually am a fairly terrible Roller Derby player- BUT I have a great brain for strategical thinking. My teammates once awarded me a certificate for “Finding the Most Loopholes in Rules” and I am still pretty proud of that award! It just goes to show that it takes all types of people to make a successful team. Even if I am not the best skater, I can come up with strategies and plays and think my team through the toughest spots on the track. When you have a team that values each member for the skills they contribute, it benefits the entire team and growth is a natural organic outcome, and that holds true not just in the world of sports but in real life too. Extra bonus points when you get to have fun while you are learning and growing!
