Projects included inspection automation, welding, surface finishing, and coatings type of processes.Continued the development of Friction Stir Welding across multiple applications from work done as the primary DRI of the FSW development on the iMac as an SME. Worked closely with Automation/Integration vendor on a solution to create an "invisible weld" that ID had tried to achieve with lasers but was not able to fullly realize until I worked on getting FSW from simple test plagues all the way to a final mass production feasible solution.

    First week in the new role, was asked to fly to China to fix a 30% yield hitter and ramp blocker issue related to surface finishing process that had a negative impact on the system functionality. Was able to work with the vendor to pull together a root cause analysis plan, develop a new fixture design to improve yield through the process, as well as develop a successful re-work process in case the fixture design improvement didn't work. Presented daily updates to executives on conference calls and was able to increase yield from 70% to 98% in 7days.Introduced wet surface finishing to Apple programs starting with the design of wet surface finishing enclosure designs with the vendors as well as fully getting into the details of water cleanliness requirement, filtration methods, and ensuring dust encapsulation. Enjoyed working on a project to make the working environment safer for all vendor employees and Apple employees working in our factories.Advancement of mechanical polishing process in China working with robot vendors to understand impact of robot posture, calibration of cells, and effectively using the TCP. Created new sanding paths and did multiple media evaluations with various large abrasive media suppliers in the US, Japan, Europe, and China to find the right solution to achieve the "look" Industrial Design was trying to achieve. Developed "Human Method Sanding" process with robots to mimic sanding motions of how a craftsman would manually polish an enclosure. Further developed polishing process to streamline CT and media but achieving the same look for a fraction of the cost.Challenged to figure out how to achieve a lapped mirror surface on a 3D aluminum iPad housing. Developed multiples solutions based on individual enclosure vendors equipment and capabilities. Worked closely with top lapping companies in Japan to understand the details of lapping slurries and lapping pad consumables in order to achieve a 10nm surface roughness.

Provided the key link between the Product Design and Industrial Design team in Cupertino with the vendor in China to communicate design intent and develop solutions to achieve the pinnacle of design for consumer electronics at the time. Fixed numerous issues and developed a manufacturing cell qualification plan that proved successful for huge volumes of housings per day.
