Originally created as a promotional tool to sell t-shirts that were donning a nickname for James Madison University (JMaddy), the website grew into an entertainment portal for students to post pictures, videos, blurbs and articles. At its peak, the site was receiving over 15,000 hits a day and replaced the homepages for much of the JMU student body. The website has had two subsidiaries, insomniacuniversity.com (NYU), and theorangelife.com (Syracuse University). The website is most notably known for producing novelty tshirts, giant block party events, funny campus videos, college swimsuit calendars, as well as its legal battle with Glamour Magazine.1.
