I also had the opportunity while volunteering to shadow the medical staff caring for various patients that were seen with a variety of wound issues.

During my time as a lifeguard at the White Water Canyon Water Park with the Tinley Park-Park District, I was able to apply my skills in water rescue and guest safety daily. Training before the park opened was necessary to ensure that in the event that someone was struggling to stay afloat in the water or needed CPR, the various lifeguards would be able to safely bring them to the side of the pool out of harms way. At the pool, I had to apply my training in water rescues twice, with the fortunate result that the guests were safely brought out of the water.

Received brain samples from a Parkinson’s disease patient to identify Bax Δ2 and performed immunohistochemistry staining in the frontal lobe and thalamus for Bax Δ2, Bax-α, and α-Synuclein. Detection of Bax Δ2 was seen in a patient with Parkinson’s disease, suggesting it may play a pathological role in other neurodegenerative diseases besides Alzheimer’s disease as previously studied. Created posters to share with faculty and students at research symposium annually held at the university, "Detection of Bax Δ2 protein aggregates in brain tissues from Parkinson’s patient."
