About Collin Dando
Growing up I thought that it was my dream to become an engineer. Growing up with two math teachers as parents, I had a love for numbers, math, and logic and engineering seemed like a natural place for these skills to coalesce. While in college, I quickly realized that this was not the case, I had my dreams set on the big projects that would shape cities and after a few classes and mentorships I soon realized that it would take decades (of work I had no interest in) to even have an opportunity to reach those levels in an engineering career. Unfortunately, while I came to this realization quickly, I had no other ideas of what I would want to do. Over the subsequent years, while I did not make much progress towards graduating with a degree (due to changing majors regularly), I maintained a good GPA and I managed to amass life experiences. I was a forest firefighter for three years as well as a security guard in California and moved to Alaska to become registrar for a distance learning program for high schoolers and a bartender.While bartending I chose to major in business administration through UAS, not because I had finally found my calling, but rather because having a college degree would open doors in the future no matter what it was in. While studying at UAS, I was required to choose an emphasis to my major, I chose entrepreneurship and never looked back. Just before graduating, I was told about a staff accounting opening at the local CPA firm, I didn’t have much experience with accounting or taxes, however, I was getting tired of the daily grind of bartending and applied for the job. I was a natural, I loved the diverse work of the small firm that I was a part of, there was constantly different tasks to accomplish and I was never board, and I decided to become a CPA within a year of working there. Skip forward a few years and I have now started three businesses, some are now hobbies, I am a CPA, and my newest business adventure is starting my own CPA firm that specializes in helping other entrepreneurs succeed by providing bookkeeping, tax, and business advisory services to my local community. While it may have taken me some time to find my calling I have found both what I excel at and what I enjoy doing. I specialize in business advisory services, tax preparation, bookkeeping, financial compilation and reviews, payroll, financial planning, business formation and tax optimization services. It’s my goal to make the community a better place one business at a time.
