About Collin Davis

I'm an incessantly curious builder whose tools include everything from drill bits to virtual bits (and bytes). I'm a dad, a technologist, a craftsman, a problem solver, a teacher, and an explorer. I have a woodworking shop in my garage, but spend most of my time in my home office solving hard technology problems with the help of incredibly smart engineers. My weekends are full of chasing my kids down ski runs, hiking, building snow caves, coaching baseball, throwing crab pots and fishing lines in the sound, and looking for other ways to enjoy the outdoors of the Pacific Northwest. We are building technologies and developer experiences that make the world safer for everyone. As the lines between digital worlds and the real world vanish, secure solutions are ever more important. These are very hard problems. I learn more every day and strive to approach challenges with creative thinking that empowers my team to solve them.

Amazon Web Services (Aws) Dec 2020 - May 2021
    Seattle, Wa, Us
As the GM of AWS Productivity Apps, I lead three AWS services including Chime, WorkMail, and WorkDocs, as well the development of new services that are not yet released. Our services reliably handle billions of video conferencing minutes, phone calls, chat messages, and e-mail for customers. Seattle, Wa, Us
Alexa changed the way we interact with machines and applications in unexpected ways. Voice-powered smart homes have made our daily lives more intuitive and personal. The same thing is happening at work. As the founding GM of Alexa for Business, I led the service from conception to release. I wrote the initial PRFAQ for Alexa for Business, which incorporated customer feedback into our vision for the service. As the first service team member, I built the team, hiring engineers, product mangers and their leaders. We launched Alexa for Business at re:Invent 2017. We worked with customers like Conde Nast, GE, and Seattle Children's hospital to voice-enable conference rooms, lobbies, hospital rooms, hotel rooms, and warehouses.

AppSteam launched at re:Invent in October, 2013. As the GM, I was the single threaded owner responsible for AppStream including Product, Engineering, and our service P&L. AppStream was one of the first services to enable developers like SolidWorks, Disti, Aveva, and Mathworks to deliver their graphically intensive applications from the AWS cloud to virtually any device regardless of its compute power. My team developed a proprietary real-time video streaming protocol that made it possible to deliver low-latency applications that could respond to user input fast enough to give the impression that application was running locally.
