Marketing And Communications Manager
Eco Intern
My experience interning at ASOW has been overwhelmingly positive. It has made me passionate and excited about the future of offshore wind energy. I now feel prepared to educate others on the numerous benefits of OSW and easily disband misinformation. I quickly became interested in the installation process and began building a 3D model for the ECO center. I wanted to show people how these projects are installed by creating a simplified model of the process. It’s accompanied by a document that summarizes each stage of construction in simple terms along with the purpose of the many specialized vessels involved. Overall, it was an excellent experience that opened my eyes to an exciting new industry.
Green Teams Intern
Throughout the summer I got the opportunity to work with Stryker, a global leader in medical technology. Working with the corporate sustainability team, I gained valuable insights and experience. My team assisted with reducing carbon emissions and assessing renewable energy sources for facilities around the globe. Some of our work included researching the viability of on-site solar, renewable procurement, power purchase agreements, and renewable energy credits across several regions. We also compiled a database of 150+ incentives, tax credits, and rebates for their sustainability projects. This research opens the door to a variety of energy efficiency measures and renewable energy projects! It was very rewarding to research policies and incentives for a company working towards carbon neutrality and 100% renewable energy sourcing. Having the opportunity to make a positive impact on a global corporation is something I am very proud of.
Watershed Steward
As a full-time intern with the New Jersey Water Supply Authority (NJWSA) through Monmouth County Park System, I worked at the Manasquan Reservoir as a watershed steward and seasonal park ranger. Alongside watershed protection specialist Kyle Clonan, I performed routine inspections and surveys on vessels entering the water body and informed the public about preventing the spread of aquatic invasive plant species (AIS). With the help of another intern, I engaged in pesticide application, water quality testing, AIS sampling, and plant identification during survey fieldwork. Additionally, I performed regular park ranger duties such as maintenance, landscaping, patrolling, and assisting the public. While working at the park I also taught a free kids' fishing course called Fishing 101 every Thursday that covered the basics of catch-and-release fishing.
Specialty Team Member
While hired as a cashier in customer service, I worked with many different teams in various departments such as grocery, produce, dairy, maintenance, meat, prepared foods, and specialty. This role came with a broad array of duties that required quick thinking, store knowledge, and excellent customer service and communication skills. Some typical tasks include the operation of a POS system, guiding customers to products, receiving and storing orders, stocking shelves, food service and preparation, and food safety inspections. Besides providing help wherever it was needed in the store, I also worked in the specialty foods department where I made recommendations to guests, provided samples, answered questions, and helped build charcuterie boards for special events or gatherings.
