iTriage, a part of Aetna's consumer digital products and innovation group, empowers consumers to take control of their health by giving them actionable health information through smart technology.As part of the iTriage team, I'm leading the product software engineering teams as we work to bring better and more innovative solutions to an ever changing healthcare landscape. Our focus is on web and mobile technologies, and on creating partnerships that compliment our solutions to bring a more robust end-user experience to the consumers.We've recently merged with an Aetna incubated startup named WellMatch Health. As the VPE at iTriage, I worked with the executive teams of both organizations to build and execute a plan for merging two cultures (one local and one 100% remote) into a single organization, while also defining and building a new product with a now doubled-in-size engineering team.

During my time at Ello, I had the opportunity to help build a dream team of engineers developing a beautiful and ad-free social network. I partnered with the Director of People to completely replace a team of consultants with full time engineers, while still meeting major milestone timelines and deliverables. This was my first foray into the world of early-stage startups and the lessons I learned will prove invaluable in my career going forward. Everything from the software development process to the notion of company culture is different in an early-stage startup, so this time of my career was rewarding and educational on many levels. In the end, the company needed to extend their funding runway by reducing headcount by roughly 50%, and I was a casualty of that situation.

During my time as VP of Engineering, I helped grow the engineering team from 3 teams executing on 3 product lines to 8 teams executing on 4 product lines. During this time, I was also heavily involved in scaling the software processes, maintaining and growing the culture and leading active recruiting efforts in the local technology community. This is also the point in time where the psychology behind successful teams became an area of study for me. This passion is now a tool I employ with any team I work with. Every team member is a piece of the puzzle; the goal of leading a team is to figure out how to best put those puzzle pieces together to create something amazing.

When I joined ReadyTalk, the engineering team was still quite small and young in it's process development. I immediately began working to implement some established agile processes to help the business benefit from the extremely talented group of engineers they had. Once the processes were in place, it was time to focus on the team and the product. I worked closely with the product team to deliver on features, while growing the team from ten people to thirty people. During this time, I also began building a team of agile thought leaders to continue to evolve the processes to meet the business needs.

I joined Local Matters as a Software Engineer and worked in a Spring stack environment, helping to bring IYP to the masses in various countries across Europe. My responsibilities included software development and LOE's for various phases of the projects I worked on, as well as working with the search engineers to integrate the FAST search technology into our Spring web application.

As the Software Development Manager at MNGi, I worked closely with the development teams to define and deliver on project goals and objectives. I also worked as a Product Owner for the online publishing system, where I helped define the goals and vision of the system in terms of enhancements and new functionality.

As the Software Team Lead, I worked extensively with the requirements analyst and the technical architects to design, develop and implement a new Content Management System written in Java/JSP and built on the ATG application framework. This was a 2+ year migration from the ASP/VB Script CMS to the Java/JSP CMS.

Upon moving into a Software Engineer role at MediaNews Group, I took a more active role in the direction that the online Content Management System took as it evolved and matured. I was one of the main engineers working to implement and customize Vignette (V5 and V6) to meet the growing needs of our properties.

As a web developer at MediaNews Group, I worked to help develop and support the homegrown content management system and content processing pipeline, allowing our properties to create, edit and publish their online edition of the newspaper.

As IT Manager of McGuire Research Services, I managed and maintained 2 call centers of approximately 200 workstations each. I also managed web application development projects for the online survey system written in Cold Fusion.
