Delighted to have been awarded an OBE in the recent Queen's Birthday honours list for services to children with special educational needs. šAlso delighted to have been awarded an Honorary Fellowship for the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists for the collaborative work Iāve done over 24 years as VP and Principal.Formally diagnosed with having MND in May 2016. Condition has made me more determined to fight it and to remain positive about life. Apart from lobbying for more funding for kids with SEN, now on MNDA NI Committee and lobbying for better services for MND sufferers too.Highly driven and motivated person who wants only the best for children and young people with special needs. Enjoy lobbying, being passionate about what really matters in life! Enjoy people and the challenges of leadership and management! Where possible, apply a 'realistic' and 'common sense' approach to management!

Tor Bank is a school for children and young people who have Severe learning Difficulties and Disabilities. We have currently 160 pupils enrolled and the 80 staff members on site range from teachers to classroom assistants to therapists.

Retired PrincipalI'm currently head teacher of a school for children and young people with Severe learning Difficulties / Disabilities. The school has an enrolment of 162 children and has a fantastic new school building. We were inspected ( March 2012) and have been awarded the highest category for inspection - the 'OUTSTANDING' school grade. We are delighted!Tor Bank has level 2 Rights Respecting School Status.(Please see ETI web site for NI).Co-chair of the Special Schools Strategic Leadership Forum NI General Teachers Council for NII currently represent the special education on the GTCNI.NAHT InvolvementI'm on the NAHT Executive at local and National levels. Special School InvolvementIn NI, I chair the SEELB Special Schools Principal's group and Chair the joint union meetings with DE and ELBs.Work with CharitiesI recently resigned as director and Chair of Forward Learning, a Charity that works with Ethnic Minorities and Para -Militaries. Involvement with InspectorateI worked as an Associate Assessor with ETI for 6 years ( until recently)Involvement with CCEAI'm been involved in many CCEA working groups the most recent one being focused on Accreditation for SEN. I've written Assessment Units and EARs as well as being a seconded Moderator for Assessment ( 1992-1994)Hobbies & PersonalLeeds United - responsible for character building & teaching me how to cry....in private of course!!Golf - member of Ballycastle Golf Club & proud that I'm not getting any better at it....hmmm...have to say that!Rugby - Ulster Rugby Supporter - when I'm allowed out of course.3 Children.2 in London - 1 finished University & working in a media company & the other one of them still at university studying a PGCE; 1 at home working as an apprentice electrician! Conclusion Hey..love life....work hard...love working with children with SEN.... so enjoy social activities...& not getting any younger & not worrying about it either....the way to go folks!!
